Hyperspace destination displayed in the 1.79 hud?
The addition of primed kit and compass target to the hud is great. Is there room for one more - the current hyperspace destination?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Hyperspace destination displayed in the 1.79 hud?
That's a great idea, it could be incorporated into the HS fuel gauge!
Re: Hyperspace destination displayed in the 1.79 hud?
Fuel gauge is about the only sensible place I can find to put it.
Here's a very quick mockup I did by carefully positioning a HUD legend last night - doing it properly would give a higher contrast between the text and the bar, and probably need it to move around on the bar depending on the position of the "fuel required" indicator.
What do you think?

I was thinking between the ship's clock and the scanner. Hyperspace: Riedquat, for example - it can't be more than twenty characters in total, yes?cim wrote:Fuel gauge is about the only sensible place I can find to put it.
I quite like the look of it in the fuel gauge - but would it be a bit fiddly, with it having to move? Also, can it be relocated elsewhere for OXP huds?

Re: Hyperspace destination displayed in the 1.79 hud?
There's probably just about room to fit it there with a little bit of rearrangement, though it probably wouldn't work too well with the long end of Random Ship Names: the space below the clock is kept clear for showing long entity names in Ident mode.
It can't go there in hud-small, though ... there is just about room above the missile display, I think.
I think in terms of coherent design on the minimalist default HUDs it probably is better inside the fuel bar - it wouldn't be that fiddly to implement, though it might not suit every HUD
I suppose I could implement both ways as options - either integrated into the fuel gauge, or as a separate dial - and let HUD writers choose which suited better for their design.

They can get rather long, especially with a Sidewinder Scout Ship - I've had to adjust* my instrument panel to accommodate them.cim wrote:... though it probably wouldn't work too well with the long end of Random Ship Names
You're the guv'nor - if you think it's worth doing, that would be cool.cim wrote:I suppose I could implement both ways as options - either integrated into the fuel gauge, or as a separate dial...
*I persuaded a boffin to help, of course.

How about when you start a hyperspace countdown that the distance to the system is given in the text shown on the HUD?
The stuff at the bottom of the screen is more like a HDD (Heads Down Display) rather than a HUD.

Having tried it out a bit, the fuel required bar doesn't cause that much trouble. Finding a colour that works against both the yellow of the fuel bar and the black of not the fuel bar is trickier, though. Anyway, it doesn't look like it needs to move, so I've just put in one dial
"drawWitchspaceDestination:"
which can coincidentally be positioned over the fuel gauge. I've put it there for now for testing in the nightly builds, though I'll probably comment it out and leave it as OXP-only in a few days unless people really like it.Could be done. It would need a bit of adjustment to how that string expansion is done, but it's possible.Switeck wrote:How about when you start a hyperspace countdown that the distance to the system is given in the text shown on the HUD?

Thanks - and OXP-only would be excellent. <twangin' guitars>cim wrote:I've put it there for now for testing in the nightly builds, though I'll probably comment it out and leave it as OXP-only in a few days...
