Flight Log for time in ships, galaxies and other data.
Had a thought last night about whether the core game or an OXP could record your Jameson's career in terms of flight time in different ships.
So X number of days, hours, in a Cobby MkII
X number of days, hours in a python and so on and so forth.
Thinking now could the game also record the amount of time spent in different galaxies and then a break down of further info, like most visited system? Most visited government type?
A bit data collection nerdy I know, but it would be data I'd find interesting to see in game.

Alternatively you could prove that you really need to get a real life by keeping such a Commanders Log in an Excel File for no reason at all, except that you pathetically enjoy doing it.
Not that I would would ever do such a thing
Such an OXP would save me so much time

I used to do something similar for the employment dates of the various crew I hired in Frontier.Diogenese Senna wrote:Alternatively you could prove that you really need to get a real life by keeping such a Commanders Log in an Excel File for no reason at all, except that you pathetically enjoy doing it.

Should be quite simple to do, using playerBoughtNewShip and maybe playerEnteredNewGalaxy. Its a variant on my Flight Log OXP. If I get a bit of time I'll put something together.

But of course - I am the evil one around here
Anyway, I've got a beta version of the OXP running on my machine and it seems to work (logs ship purchases and galactic hyperspace jumps). Just got to give it a little more testing and polish it up, then I'll release it for you lot to have a play with, probably tomorrow night.

OK, for those who are interested, the OXP can be downloaded here.
Please give it a test run and let me know if it meets the need. If all is OK I'll give it a full release after that. Also it currently just logs ship purchases and galactic jumps - if there's any other major events that could be worth logging also please make your suggestions (remembering that Flight Log OXP already does something along these lines too).

It works - I like - I keep
Just out of curiosity, just what sort of information could be written to a ships log?

Almost anything that can be sampled or has a trigger, although of course single events are much easier than trying to average things.
The main limitation is the display of the list on the screen. At least without a lot of messing around with multiple screens which quickly would get very complex.

Mis-jumps?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I can see your point. Just thinking about the sort of Data just a single run - docking to docking - could easily generate.

Flight log OXP covers most of that. This is why I was trying to keep the two OXPs distinct, as one would be quite a high turn-over whereas the other one would be more longer term.Diogenese Senna wrote:I can see your point. One thing that I am considering is having the log kept for 100 events, but only displaying the most recent 10 (with the full 100 log being dumped to latest.log when you trigger that). If that works out then I may upgrade FL to do the same.
Cody wrote:Mis-jumps?
Again that's covered in FL, but only as part of the tracking of systems entered in that OXP (with mis-jumps logged as entries into interstellar space). It would also fit in CL as well though probably as a rare event (except for those commanders who actively seek trouble that way by forced misjumping). I'll add that one in to CL too, as it's a simple one.
The only other item I could think of was fuel leaks, but that I think will be a difficult one to detect. One perhaps for some further thought.

Hmm.. Ship servicing intervals and costs, perhaps?
