For some sense of scale, the yield of the Hiroshima bomb was somewhere between 13,000 and 18,000 tons, so - although this "was no Chelyabinsk" (estimated explosive yield: 500,000 tons of TNT) - it could still have spoiled your day if you were near it ...

Yeah, and only spotted less than a day before impact... small or large, they are out there.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
