SNARK

Post by Radagast »

Question about the SNark ship - every time I start a new game, after I jump to either Lave or Leesti, 100% of the time there are TWO snarks armed with what can only be military lasers. They come, shoot at me for HALF A SECOND and I am dead, even flying with a hardened Cobra MK3.

Is this expectd to happen?

Welcome aboard, Radagast. I can't answer your question... so have a verse instead:

In the midst of the word he was trying to say,
In the midst of his laughter and glee,
He had softly and suddenly vanished away,
For the Snark was a Boojum, you see.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Hello Radagast.

Did you copy the script.plist file into the Config folder? If you did, it's causing the behaviour. Renaming or removing the file helps.

thanks for the welcome, and no, I just unpacked the whole .oxp inside the addon directory, as I did with everything else I decided to add to oolite.

removing the entire ship solved the problem. I think I can live without the hunting of the snark ;)

elite was probably the game I spent more hours with in my entire life. Perhaps second to Civ II, but this is disputable.

I got it with my MSX in 1988, and ascended to the rank of Deadly with it, traveling up to galaxy 5 and killing the Constructor (that was a pain)

Then over the years I have installed MSX emulators and playerd elite once every year for a couple of hours, but it is a "bit" too old for our spoiled senses now.

Privateer proved to be good for many years, EV Nova and Space Ranger helped, but now I found Oolite, lets se if I can resurrect my old 14 yrs old self and end the rest of my life trading and pillaging goods.

Just to say,

I had the same problem as dear old Radagast. Each time I jumped, - 6 times - I met two snarks. Twice, I was lucky, somebody else was also there at the Witchpoint. One presumes that they ended up as fish bait. But the other four times, there was no decoy, and the dastards came after me, and marmalised me twice.

No idea if they had militaries or not. But they jolly well had twin lasers.

Nasty! Hunting the snark is one thing. Being hunted by them, quite another.
