Well, I just got around to doing the Thargoid mission in galaxy 3. I managed to do it without ever getting killed by the Thargoids (the only time I died was due to crap piloting - I crashed into the Behemoth I was trying to dock with one time, and another time got rammed by a suicidal Fer de Lance NG on afterburners).
It came close, though. In my attempt to do it without being killed by the Thargoids, I had lots of equipment damaged, used many energy bombs, Q bombs and hardened missiles. All in all, doing that mission cost me around 70,000 credits! (The worst bits are when your military shield enhancement gets damaged, it costs a lot to repair).
