Next ship
Slowly but surely my Cr balance is increasing and in the near future I will no doubt be considering trying out another ship. But which one? There are so many choices!
Things I currently enjoy (in my Cob Mk III):
1. Destroying pirates
2. Destroying honest traders and then pirating their wares
3. Doing the odd cargo trip
So whatever I get needs to accommodate the above. Ships only available via OXP are OK.
Any suggestions?

Re: Next ship
There are oodles of OXP ships - see the OXP list. Try the Chopped Cobra - a good fighting ship, but not über.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Next ship
Plenty of OXP ships fit the bill, but why not try another of the 'core' ships first.
It might sound like a crazy suggestion, but what about a Python? Slower than a Cobby 3, but a huge hold for all that booty and more energy banks as well. And consider - What is the biggest, baddest (core game) pirate ship? Yes, the Python Blackdog!
I flew one for a long time, and once you get used to its limitations, it is a fine ship and will serve you well. Some of my fondest Oolite memories are from my Python days

Re: Next ship
Hmm... mainly 'cos it has two escorts with it. At the risk of derailing this thread, the ship I fear most these days is probably the Cobra III - with Skilled NPCs, Fair Cobra and NPC Shields installed, just two of them can give me real trouble. Mind you, I only play with the core ships (mostly) - no über ships in my Ooniverse!Smivs wrote:What is the biggest, baddest (core game) pirate ship? Yes, the Python Blackdog!

Hmm, I've got too used to blowing Pythons up to want to pilot one I think What about the Boa Class Cruiser? How does that fair?
I like the look of the SuperCobra!!! Just think it might take me a while to save for it!
Rather like the look of the Caduceus too. Concerned that might feel a bit like cheating though (SuperCob too)...

There's the (expensive, but badass) Wolf Mark II - now available with added Griffification. For a good fighting ship that's just the right side of uber (IMO), you can't beat it. It keeps you picky about your cargo, too.

<nods> Yep... a sweet ship, is the Wolf Mk II. Mind you, the guys that fly them are a bit dodgy!Disembodied wrote:There's the (expensive, but badass) Wolf Mark II - now available with added Griffification. Re: Next ship
I traded my old Python for a BCC. The BCC is probably the most 'uber' of the core ships and is excellent. Having said that, I still miss the Python - the BCC is just too good really but in the Python you have to keep your wits about you and TBH is much more fun to play with as the balance of toughness/vulnerability is just about right.Commander Tricky wrote:What about the Boa Class Cruiser? Re: Next ship
I think I will try the BCC next as I would like to give a bulk hauler a go before moving onto the OXP ships.
Shouldn't take too long to save for it either if I have many trips like the last one: nearly 5000 Cr (from bounties, rescue fees and plundered cargo )

Re: Next ship
Oh wow! Saw this stream of red dots coming off a mahoosive ship and thought cool, that's a frigate! Didn't realise it was an enemy pirate frigate firing at me!!!!
Employing the standard Cmdr Tricky tactics of running away and blasting with the aft laser (and taking out the stream of ECM hardened missiles fired at me), I seemed to manage to damage it (venting plasma), so turned around and took him out!!!!
I LOVE this game!

Re: Next ship
Ha, yes I remember the first time I took out a frigate I also remember the time one launched from a station into a furball - everything else was space-dust within seconds I think it has been fixed now so that doesn't happen anymore.

Re: Next ship
Commander Solo recently traded in his Cobra 3 for a stock Asp Mk2. Perfect for bounty hunting and trading in precious metals and gems. I find not having to scoop cargo a nice change.
