Lately I have experienced a run of chasing down what seem to turn out to be ghost, or disappearing escape pods. A couple of times I have flown in hyperspace for such a long period, chasing down an escape pod, that when I looked through aft_view, the planet was significantly reduced in size, due to distance. Never caught up to the "escape pod". Other times I have heard the computer say "Escape pod distress signal lost", but the "E" icon remains on my sensor grid, when there was only one on there to begin with.
I don't know if this is a bug, or a Linux thing, or what. Hence, I did not know where to report it.

Re: Disappearing Escape Pods
Ah yes.. it was previously reported here.
It seems the beacon which gets attached to the pod by the Escape Capsule Locater OXP isn't always correctly removed when the pod is scooped, leaving a beacon drifting through space, squawking for help. The problem has been fixed in trunk, I believe, but may still involve (I might be wrong) an update to the OXP as well. The same problem was also affecting early versions of Thargoids Cargo Spotter OXP. He was able to fix that OXP, so presumably we now just need Capt. Murphy to update the ECL in the same manner.
You can read the discussion of this problem in the ECL thread, starting at this post.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Re: Disappearing Escape Pods
Okay, that seems to be the same issue. Thanks Diziet Sma.
