I won't be holding my breath for either the a/c mounted laser or the naval rail gun - both programmes have had huge technological issues to overcome over the years, and every time they promise "next year" they hit another one that puts them back 2 or 3...

I know a few guys around here who would probably get them working in a couple of days (and bugfixed within a week).

All high powered lasers suffer from the same problem when introduced to air - air really doesn't like being superheated and does all sorts of horrible things to the beam.
