New to Oolite

Post by Jeffers2112 »

Hi all.

I'm new to Oolite, having only learned of it's existence after getting involved in the Elite Kickstarter.

I'm having lots of fun and it brings back memories of those many (very many!) hours spent getting to "Elite" status on my trusty old BBC B Micro.

Been dabbling with a few OXPs, mostly ambient ones, and they really make for a pretty good looking game. I've got a few different Commanders on the go, exploring various aspects of the game.

I have one confession to make, I've one Commander whose save file I hacked to give him an extra million credits so that I could have a play with all the add-ons that I wanted to try out, along with different ships. I have also got my vanilla guy who's doing it the hard way....

Cheers all from Jeff.

G'day Jeff, and welcome to "the friendliest board this side of Riedquat". 8)

Hehehe.. the "cheating" with some credits is something most of us have done at some point, I suspect.. even if only to test-fly a ship we're curious about. (Or we edit a price in an OXP for much the same reasons.. I recently knocked a zero off the price of the Thargoid Warship so I could test-fly it without messing with the credits in a game-save file  )
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Well.. 950,000 is a good bit more than any of my Commanders have right now.. (and buying it for 95,000 left me some cash remaining to upgrade it enough to have a hope of surviving against all the mad-keen Thargoid-killers out there..)

Well I made it expensive as I didn't really think it should be readily available to every man and his dog. And as for the mad-keen Thargoid-killers, well, don't we all shoot at them on sight?

Oh, I quite agree.. but when I'm in tryout or testing modes, the rules don't apply to me..

Howdy.

I've been playing Oolite for nearly two and a half years. I have over 9500 kills and nearly 2.2million credits (lost heaps on the first cadaceus omega I bought  ) and just joined the forum today.
I wish I'd worked out some of the cheats since the only one I use is saving at every station and reloading/restarting the game if I make an error. I think I'll keep going vanilla now though.

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Probably not quite the right place.
Cheers.

Hi DruidDave and welcome to the board. Think we all use the backup saving 'cheat' as you put it, allows you to backtrack fatal errors in judgement!
