Joystick (or flight yoke) for Oolite on Linux?
I've been playing with the keyboard until now, but I intend to buy a joystick and I'm looking for advise.
Anybody have good experience playing Oolite on Linux with a joystick? Which one would you recommend? Should I go for a digital or for an analog joystick?
I found this list with supported joysticks in the Linux Kernel Documentation, but I'd like to get some advise from first hand experience.
Does anybody use a flight yoke in stead of a joystick?
(I'm using Xubuntu, but I don't think this matters much. I've read this thread about the Logitech extreme 3d pro on Arch Linux.)

i use a Logitech Attack 3. Works out the box on Ubuntu here. Pretty good and not too expensive, but a quick look at their site suggests it may no longer be made

I too use a Logitech Attack 3 - it's on the way out now, but I've thrashed it for five years, so I can recommend it as a good budget 'stick.
I have tested the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro - ahh, that felt sweet indeed. It's on my wish list for winterfest - it has an extra button!

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I think that most usb analog joysticks (I don't know about those dual analog joypads or some strange exotic controllers with many axes) should work out of the box. When you'll buy it, be sure that it could be changed if it doesn't work.

I use a Saitek Cyborg EVO, and it works extremely well..

These days though, I miss my Voltmace. Proper analogue control.

Thanks, all, for the fine advise!
I'll try the recommended joysticks over the next few weeks.
Nobody is playing Oolite with a flight yoke?

I would love one of those but in all honesty, a little too expensive and I've nowhere to put it.Gimbal Locke wrote:Thanks, all, for the fine advise!

And then, of course, one could just go nuts with the extras..

That's some fancy lookin' gear there. Whatever happened to the simple flight yoke ?
