Niel Armstrong’s last step taken
Two years ago, Neil Armstrong offered to land on Mars if Nasa would only get on with building him a ship. Today we find out the opportunity is lost.

Ah... how well I remember: Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed! RIP!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

One of my childhood heroes. One of my adulthood heroes, come to that. A sad, sad loss. I think now there are only eight men left alive who have walked on another world.

RIP to a true pioneer. Let us hope that what he worked for is not lost.

This is truly very sad news. I actually felt cold when I heard.

Very sad about this. He was one of humanity's best. There are people who come along every once in a while that change everything around them by their actions & words, usually it always for the worst, but in rare cases you get people like Neil who open our minds to new wonderful possibilities and leave an indelible legacy with their passing.
I have to admit though that part of me is a little angry too. I think this piece in the guardian newspaper sums up my feelings really well

Thanks for linking that picture.
It's my favourite picture of an astronaut by far.
His face... Priceless, the combination of fatigue and exhilaration.
'I've walked on the friggin MOON!'
Just look at it.....

The legend will never die...
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

That makes me sooooo sad.Disembodied wrote:To have done all that, to have achieved all that – and then seen nothing come of it, must have been very hard to bear.
He must've felt increasingly not as a legendary pioneer, but since there were essentially no people following in his footsteps... as an oddity...

One day soon we'll be at the point detailed in so many speculative fiction books where we either expand or implode. Where we either have left Earth as a fond memory in the consciousness of humanity or a radioactive hulk with no humanity left to remember her.
One day nonhuman explorers may come upon our planet and not be able to set down because of a nuclear fallout.
It may be solely up to private civilian innovators to set human feet on another planet.

Got all turned around, lost my nav connection... Where am I now?
