G'day everyone..
Sorry I've been absent for a while.. been getting ready to move 1700 km south, to Melbourne, Victoria. I leave in a few days.
Whilst going through all the PC parts I've accumulated these last 12 years, and deciding what's worth keeping, I came across a couple of what would seem to be still quite respectable graphics cards. The first is a Radeon HD 5770 1GB card, the other is a Gigabyte GV-N95TOC-1GI, also a 1GB card, with a GeForce 9500 GT providing the grunt. Both are around 3 years old, I believe, although the Radeon would be the more recent model, going by the specs. OpenGL 3.2 vs 2.1, for starters. Normally I'd prefer nvidia over AMD, but in this case, the Radeon would seem to be the way to go..
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience or thoughts on the relative merits of these cards. How would you say they compare, Oolite-wise?

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Building a desktop, Diz? I've not used either GPU, but the Radeon seems better, spec-wise.
I'm on nVidia these days, having suffered AMD's bloody drivers for too long.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Not so much building as upgrading the one desktop machine I'm keeping.. eight others, of varying ancestry and years, including two dual-cpu server boxes, are bound for the recycling plant tomorrow..
