I have been meaning to post this for over a year.
How to get really, really good at dogfighting.
1. Be a newbie like I was not so long ago.
2. When you have the game paused, press the right arrow key for no good reason.
3. When you turn off pause, wonder why it seems things seem to be a bit harder in this system than previous systems, but put it down to game dynamics.
After about ten minutes, you will get to be VERY good at dogfighting.
4. A few hours later, download the Oolite Reference Sheet and discover the TAF facility.
5. Put the speed back down to x1.00
6. Discover just how easy dogfighting is ... at ... such ... a ... slow ... speed.

You wanna get really good at dogfighting? Just use the stock game and a pulse laser. Enuff said. When you can handle that you are ready my young padawan learner.
Oh, and don't forget to bring a can of raid for the odd bug you might see scampering along the deckplates of your ship. Seems some commanders hereabouts don't keep such ship-shape ships and there is an epidemic of bugs throughout the stations in galaxies 1 and 2.
Try one of these:
Might want to leave the ship for a couple of hours...

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

We inherited a clothes moth infestation in a house a few years ago when we moved in. Tricksy little buggers they are. Raid won't touch them.CommonSenseOTB wrote:Oh, and don't forget to bring a can of Raid for the odd bug you might see scampering along the deckplates of your ship. I wonder if Trumbles are a form of cargo moth?

Re: Hw to get really, really good at dogfighting
What has been helping me in finally getting better :
- taking a longer break from the game - honestly, it helped.
- sideeffect from starting with poorer conditions - flying ships that are not so forgiving as an ultimately equipped Cobra3 - either featuring just 1 lasermount, or being slow as a Python.
(Them ships are compensated with being smaller, even a Python is at least presenting a smaller front/ back.)
But I am particularly low-brained today, you mayby meant that as a joke ? (the whole topic ?)

I wouldn't - I'd only be killed all the time, get annoyed, probably would have quit and restarted Oolite if I didn't know what was going on.After about ten minutes, you will get to be VERY good at dogfighting.

Well, I learnt the hard way. My main Commander traded down to a Cobra 1 right at the start, and slowly saved up enough to 'upgrade' to a Python.
You have to get pretty good pretty quick to survive in those ships

Not at all. I spent an afternoon struggling with the game running at double speed, but got used to it.snork wrote:you maybe meant that as a joke ? (the whole topic ?)

Re: Hw to get really, really good at dogfighting
I found the best skill I learned for dog fighting was to be able to use the side lasers affectively. Once I got that (after many a 'Press Space Commander') sorted I could take on twice as many foes as before. You always seem to have at least half a cool laser to fire.
And CSOTB, It is just my lunch has escaped, don't zap em just yet. I don't want to go hungry

You use the side lasers? How unsporting of you!Fatleaf wrote:I found the best skill I learned for dog fighting was to be able to use the side lasers
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
