More internet oddness >:-/
right : why does one site suddenly refuse to load on my home puters? i go to a forum regularly, hosted on a Runboard board. about Sat, i got a load error. wasn't too bothered, as they often do maintenance/backups etc. since then, everything to do w/ Runboard refuses to load at ho, on both my puters, on FF and IE ~ i just get "timed out" errors. there seems no issues here at work, and i got one of my mates to try and he can see the site no prob at all.
i run NOD32 and Windows firewall, don't have any blocking type stuff running.
anyone got any ideas what's going on, and how to cure it?
TIA

Re: More internet oddness >:-/
I had a similar problem earlier this year, and that was caused by my ISP's DNS servers having an out-of-date IP address. Comparing the results of ping and tracert on your computer and your mate's might give you some more to go on.

Seconded - found once that my work laptop could get to a website if I used it at home - but not at work, took some head scratching but then some simple tracert'ing to confirm...JD wrote:I had a similar problem earlier this year, and that was caused by my ISP's DNS servers having an out-of-date IP address. Could be a router somewhere between you and the site went south, OR your ISP is blacklisting the site in one of those poorly conceived plans to stop firesharing. I've seen both happen lately.Killer Wolf wrote:i've just tried tracert runboard.com here at work and it says the site can't be found, have i missed a step somewhere?

Re: More internet oddness >:-/
Should it be a simple DNS update problem, you should be able to avoid it by editing your hosts file.
In Windows XP it is in WINDOWS\drivers\etc , on other OSes you need to find it yourself.
(In XP) just add a line
212.94.164.140 runboard.com
The only downside is if runboard changes server/IP (again) then your PC will still search runboard at 212.94.164.140 , until you edit the hosts file again.

Re: More internet oddness >:-/
Snork, DNS is working fine for him - tracert is already giving the right IP address
However, it looks like that some of the servers inside his own ISP (all them as13285.net thingammabobs, apparently belonging to TalkTalk internet, according to WHOIS) are a bit lost when trying to reach that IP address....
