Control keys / BBC keyboard issues

Post by JazHaz »

Hi all,

Not played Oolite for a long time, and because my laptop stopped working (long story but it doesn't charge any more), I have had to start again with a fresh install.

I've got the latest 1.75.3 beta installed, and have been installing a few OXPs. I would prefer to play with the original BBC keyboard layout (eg S, X, <, >, and A to fire controls), so have downloaded the BBC keyboard.plist file from BerliOs.

Try as I might I cannot get this to work. I have tried overwriting the original keyboard.plist in Oolite.app/Resources/Config, and also putting a Config folder in Addons, with the new keyboard.plist file, but Oolite is defaulting to the standard controls which I hate. I have tried loading with the Shift key held down but to no avail.

Help?!

Works fine here. What's most likely happening is that you have another keyconfig.plist in one of your OXP folders, that is getting loaded after your BBC keys one, thus overriding it.

That, or you are misnaming the file when installing it. Note, it is keyconfig.plist, not keyboard.plist.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm think I've got a clue (from latest.log):

Code: Select all

Parse failed at line 2 (char 3) - unexpected character (wanted '>')

Seems that Chrome inserted some html in the file. Will try again! ;)

One more question.

When on the local chart, how do I toggle the display to show the government icons etc for the systems? Thought it was the ^ key, but not sure. Do I need to get equipment, eg the advanced navigational array?

No additional requirement - just press "i". The key is named key_map_info in keyconfig.plist.

Only just discovered this very function the other day. Very handy!

It is a must to read through the Oolite Reference Sheet pdf and the Advice for new Commanders pdf they can provide information on keys you didn't know about.

And don't forget to read the read-me, it is called read-me for a reason

I forgot about this. Used to have a printed one, but my printer is out of ink now. Might have to have it open in another window and switch between Oolite and it when I get stuck.

Managed to switch on bounding boxes, and couldn't work out how to switch it back off again last night. Got fed up and exitted the game. (edit: turning it on is Pause/X, turning off is Pause/N).

It's good to see that you're playing again, JazHaz... pop into IRC sometime for a chat.
