Which of the core ships have you used in your Oolite Career?

Post by Eldon »

Just wondering how well used the core set of ships are?

I've not included the Fer-de-lance because there were too many options for the poll otherwise, and its known to be under spec for it's price. (Those genuine old earth mahongany dashboards cost a small fortune you know.) If you have flown a FDL for a significant period of time feel free to post.

The Cobra's the daddy of them all, obviously, but I've always had a soft spot for the Adder - it's always been (IMO) an understimated workhorse for a small-time trader in Oolite (and I flew one for the first half of all my careers in Frontier as well).

The Asp is my favourite battleship - strong, well-armed and looks cool.

Never flown anything else, but I'm a bit sad to see that the other ships aren't much of an option really, either due to clear inferiority or no cargo space.

I'd love to see an Oolite 2.0 where all the low-end ships had a place in general gameplay. Bigger and more options isn't always better and more fun.

Oathbreaker, I agree. Id like to see more tough choices, a small agile fighter, but tiny cargo, or a big lumbering transport maybe a big gun, but still a sitting duck for a bunch of tough pirates...

I stick with the Cobra Mk. III these days. Though I gave the FDL a try for a few weeks some time ago. It's kind of sucky.

A way around that is have a cargo bay extender option for the other ships. Almost anyone who ever uses them should get it...but it may be more expensive than the Cobra 3's even though it adds only like 1-5 TC to a ship.

I have used the Boa, Cobras MK1 and MK3, and Fer-de-Lance for at least two days apiece.

I tried a couple of alt saves when I was first learning the game. I flew an adder, and a Cobra Mk. I. Then I restarted with a new game where I stuck with the Cobra mk. III.

I've flown everything on your list through serious long-term testing/playing. :)

For some particulars see this viewtopic:

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Unfortunately the Cobra has been "ubered up" in Oolite to the point that the other default ships are not really very attractive . Returning the Cobra III to 0.3LM would make the others a more practical option relatively speaking, problem solved ;)

Hey guys,

I've flown the cobraIII, a python and a boa class cruiser, i usually fly ships as stepping stones to better ships... Makes for some variable gameplay!
