Ahhhhh...I got rid of it by going back to a prior save file and tweaking my creds and score up to current level, but I'll remember this if I ever have another problem with trumbles.

Get a Jellybaby dispenser. :twisted: Jellybabies are known to eat trumbles!

Amazing - your default position to anything Oolite does that you don't like it to hack your save game... :roll: You're managing to miss out on so much.

Pro tip: If you edit your savefile so that you have 35,000,000 credits, all weapons, full missile bays and one passenger berth and add somewhere in the savefile

Code: Select all

<key>IWinInOolite</key>
<true/>
<key>sarcasm</key>
<true/>
then you can go straight to the final boss fight and win by just shooting it once. What a game, eh?

Speaking of which, I've been editing save-files a bit the last few days, and have been seeing:-
tentative: CHEAT DETECTED
in the log. But this is after reducing the credits and removing equipment to create a "start here" file. I concluded that it happened when I changed the filename and it didn't match the player name within. Is that correct?

No. Oolite is using hashes in the preferences file and checksums to verify the integrity of the savefile. Not every element of the file is checked, but things like credits, kills, player name and number of trumbles do. If any of those has been tampered with, then the message you saw comes up. We don't act on the cheat further than messaging the player in the log and restoring trumble presence if the player has tried to remove trumbles by cheating.

To get the better of those fuzzy little vermin, you need a good hot deck. Now think: What gets a deck hotter than anything else?

Hint: Pack some sunblock along with the BBQ sauce.

Perhaps my future hud designs should have a built-in cheat detector that messages the player with all kinds of sarcastic comments. :P

Maybe Capt. Murphy would like to design such a detector. :lol:

Oh, and speaking of trumbles, are you going to have broken trumbles in your oxp Capt. Murphy? Not enough to be infested with trumbles but to be infested with broken ones that behave oddly or die with a pathetic scream as they multiply. Or maybe have trumbles themselves cause equipment to break via your oxp making them many times worse. :P :lol: :twisted:
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Well, I more or less did it the technical way because I hadn't gotten a reply on here, and I was trying to get to Ceesxte. But, if I ever get those darned things again, I will be sure to use the BBQ method.

And I might add, DaddyHoggy, that I have never once cheated to give myself extra fuel, weapons, kills, or to change my location and jump to somewhere else, and believe me, I know how to do those things. The only time I use those "cheats" is when I have to restore a new savefile to my current score, or whatever. :P

You posted at 03:28 board time and received quite an amusing hint by 03.42 board time. By 04:24 you posted that you'd already hacked your file. How long did you wait? Clearly not long.

And going back to a pre-Trumble save file but restoring your post-Trumble credits and kills, is cheating. Fortunately, only yourself.

Yup, its cheating, I'll admit. But when I'm getting one of my rare oolite breaks, and I'm trying to get to a planet, I'll do whatever I have to to get there. :P I have the old save file, so I'll go back and get rid of the Trumble the normal way the next time.

FYI, by time the answer came in, I was winding down and doing something else, and I dropped the answer just before shutting down.

I recently actually bought the trumble to see what would happen. Not long later, Cmdr Amaranth worked out the rather hilarious solution to the problem. I got it whilst there was still only one on board since I didnt have anything edible in the hold and got rid of it quickly. Is that it? the trumble mission, just the puzzle to remove them? or is there more to it? Also, will I be offered them for sale again in the future? if so, if I have enough on board can I gain 'furs' upon extermination of the trumbles. Will a cargobay full of food bought at 2CR from a poor agricultural world + trumbles and time equal furs for sale at 80CR at a rich industrial world?
