Picking up escape pods

Post by Matti »

What is required to pick up escape pods, besides fuel scoop? Any free cargo space or passenger berth?

Escape pods take up 1t of cargo space Matti.
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Yup, at least one TC worth of free cargo space, and a scoop. Dump a can of cheap cargo, like food, to make room for the pod if you must; the effort is worth it. The payoff in insurance or bounty can be high.

They probably have been inside the pods for days, so they will also survive those last hours inside the pod after scooping as well.

All questions have pretty much been answered already, but I'd like to add that if you are hauling expensive cargo (for example computers or luxuries) with a full bay (small craft fill up easily), it might be better to just ignore the capsule, as bounties can often be a lot less than the worth of the dumped cargo unit.

While true, half the escape capsule you collect will have an insurance payout of 250 -500 Cr, far more than the max 40Cr you'll make on the computers.

Really? I must be one of the most unlucky fellows in space then :( I usually only get about 15-30Cr from bounties, hardly ever insurance payouts and even they have maxed out at about 100Crs.

Does Legal Status, Elite Rating or the like have influence on these payouts or am I just in the low end of the probability bell curve... again?

When you have "Captured" a pirat, then you usually don't get very much payed.
However - when you "Rescue" a trader then you may many times be very satisfied.

Even pirates use capsules.

I have rescued several traders with 500 credits to their names... always seem to be python jockeys. I have also rescued slaves, and empty pods. also if you bounty hunt some of the larger value renegades... they have pods that will give you quite a chase all over the system before a missile can be targets on them.
I have brought in pods, only to see galcop do a plea bargain with the scum ball and give me next to nothing for bringing him in. So it is kind of a toss of the dice how the fates will reward your efforts.

Sure, but it's still fun. Think about drunken or renitent 'passengers' or some cute trumbles... Oolite has a lot to offer .-)

I also have been "satisfied" many times by a "rescued"(female) trader.

A "rescued trader"oxp could ad some "eye candy"

Well, even a female pirate can sometimes be very... let's say - inspiring.
The weave of a commanders' life may be very complex.

Well, who knows what secrets the futures' oxp-s will hold. :)

Funny thing is, I usually got closer to 90-100 CR per ton of computers (I always try and sell them in lower tech systems), and I usually only get about that amount, if not less, for the escape pods. Are we talking about the same galaxy, here?
