Cool... I saw him live back in the '70s.

Hmmm, that is........an interesting duo. Straight from Arkansas......or places far south of me. That instrument is just another variation of a banjo/another instrument. It started with dobros, and I've seen manjos, eukelobros, basjos, etc.......

I saw him a couple of times in the eighties. He is one funky, kind of weird dude, but man can he pick. A guitar player named Tony Rice, who is quite famous in acoustic music in general, wrote a book about his experiences, and he said that David Grisman did more doobie than anyone else in the world. I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't be surprised.

To bring this thread a bit more back on topic - a design for a new station type (the Kiota) I've been playing with. It's a modular design, so they are all variations on a theme in a bolt-and-build stylie. Currently none have any textures (just default pure white), but even then some look quite nice.

Oh and for scaling - the hole in the middle of the hub is a docking area. And there are active lifts working within the framework part of the spars (already coded and fully functional).

Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet - will probably end up in a shipset as I have a few ship design ideas laying about on my HD that I should purge out into the game.

Thoughts on how to improve them would be welcome.

You've done that with a vengeance! Great-looking models!

Looks great really!

If further station models are churned out at the speed they are now, at some point it might become possible to have a unique main station for every system in the game :D

Very nice! And I have to say, the pure white suits them rather nicely! Gives a clean and efficient, or clinical, look.

I agree on the white but they need some excellent details like gardens, air vents (some colors, numbers and/or decals. Lights shining out of the hull. And shaders of course then or the excellent non shaded style of some artists here on the board! :).

nice, and interesting. :)

Two of the models for me immediately provoced (inner) hearing some slow whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop sound.
Just imagine only the relevant inner part rotating*, like some giant turbine propeller.

*is that possible at all ? faint memories of Griff con-store)
Would be so cool to fly through there, "press space" only if touching one of the blades. Would probably become a new sport/dare for those race-adder kids.

One of these probably could be used for the proposed Tionisla Chronicle Array OXP...

I think that is already under construction, JH.

Thought I'd seen that, but couldn't find it again. Thought maybe I dreamed it. Now it looks as if my dreams are coming true!

I've got a solar array variant of the Kiota that I didn't post, specifically because I like the work Storm did on the array proposal. But if you want I can expand it a bit and make it into something that could be such an array. I have at the moment a small array that would be an arm on stations with other bits on them, and a larger array for the specific solar station.

The Chronical array would need to be something altogether larger

Maybe every galaxy needs at least one big array as it's comms hub. :)

A variant that may be more suited to the T-array. Note that the range to target here is about 30-35km (the edge of it's lollipop is just coming onto scanner range, it's not in lock-on range yet).

But as Storm is much further on in the work (and it's a lovely model and texturing he's done) I still think his should be the array that goes into the OXP. Especially as all but the central hub are sub-ents, so it would suffer from the "blink appearance" drawing problem mentioned elsewhere.
