@ T:

Good to hear the bug can not be confirmed and the equipment-selling option seems to be fine after all :D

@Screet:

Thanks for reminding us that both files - not only the plist, the png too - have to be removed if one wants to return to the original font!

I included the new font because some of the new special ship variants got names too long to be read in the shipyard, can't completely get that one out but Kaks' font is a bit more compact in the horizontal direction, thereby more of the long names stay visible.

BTW, something I forgot about the testing:

Who wants to test alternate beginnings of the game, check out the following alternate Jameson savegames here:

http://www.box.net/shared/static/p6jch0f1er.zip

They have not been hacked or manipulated in any manner - only thing happened was taking a noob Commander, buying a cheaper ship than the Cobra Mk III and using the resulting additional Credits on any equipment available at Lave when using the Lave.oxp also.

They are still Harmless (0), docked at Lave, no time passed except for buying new ship/equipment etc., and will be included as alternate starting points into the final OSE version.

Alternate start ships: Cobra Mk I, Cobra Mk II, Eagle Mk II, Zenarchy Freighter & Zorg Sidewinder

Have fun 8)

OK, tried the selling with another commander, and it worked fine. I guess the other one has some glitch in it or something, or I missed something.
I think I have an idea about what could have happened:

I just tried it, selling everything and then buy it back. It worked.

However, when I buy the bounty scanner, I instantly see the sell option. If I sell it, I do not see the bounty scanner again until I went to the previous equipment page and then back to the last one, as if an update of that list would be missing and browsing through those pages performs the update.

Too bad this was out before I got to brag about having the closed beta... but, now I can brag about having it before everyone else! Now, to crush galcop, and the universe will be ours!

This beta is much more advanced than the last one I gave out, amongst others to you and still in private, there is most of the new stuff & balancing out done - except the re-pricing & Tech Level-ing, and the branching of all ships into whole classes of ships. That task is going to be done with a program that automagically writes (!) a shipdata and shipyard plist ... the end result will be more than half a million lines long concerning the shipdata.plist and OSE WiP V0.9 will then contain more than six thousand ships

Have a look at the edges of Galactic Sector 3, Darth Neblin, find the system with the name of "Achenar Secundus" and read the planetary description. In V0.4, that is. You can then brag, as you have been immortalised in that one. Perhaps you'll even figure in the epic "Very long way around" mission which I don't know for sure yet if I'm going to do (if anyone wants to help with that, welcome 8) )

So, welcome back, and have fun with the WiP V0.4, which atm seems to have so few bugs that I'm a bit surplussed actually. In a good way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7KkFcyO ... re=related

He shall come ... and rule the Ooniverse

Now go forth and bring this parcel to GalCop HQ. Be sure to be a few systems away when they open it.

EDIT: Your screen seems to indicate that you are using the "1.73" test trunk of Oolite core. OSE V0.4 is made for 1.72.2 atm still. The trunk build is a very testy test version and I will upgrade OSE WiP for 1.73 when this one comes out rather more stable.

I would therefore suggest you try the new WiP under 1.72.2. On the other hand, Screet got OSE V0.4 to run under "1.73" trunk, so perhaps you can ask him how he did that successfully.

Hope that helps.

I simply had to replace the old folder with the new one ;) However, I'm using Vista and have not seen a similar error message to that Mac one.

The trunk version ain't that bad to run OSE as it fixes a problem that can arise with escorts and thus is more likely to be seen with OSE than without, due to the mass of ships. 1.72 would simply crash if it arises, while the trunk build has a safety feature built in.

Hi!

The bounty scanner appears always at the end of the list with the Items to sell. Buying and selling is no problem.

But now to the adventures of commander Teacox (impressions and opinions inside):

Commander Teacox did, what the more experienced commanders had suggested: Sold the Cobra, bought a cheap, bulky and slow freighter and did some milk-runs. A little later he had the credits to buy a zenarchy-freighter. Good ship. Many energy banks, but no possibility to mount a military laser. So he invested in anti missile systems. He had some good transport deals and thought, it should be safe enough to use the spacelanes, as long as there is enough police and navy in the system. Entering a system, seeing a Constitution - good. Pirates won't have any chance. Wife and kid won't always cry anymore, when he was leaving Lave station to do his job. So he thought.

The cargo bay full with food, wine and furs, he entered the Veis system. Nothing on the scanner, a bottle of good wine on the console and reading the "GEA" - the "Galactic Economic Advisor - how to be Tycoon in only five years" - he drifted along the spacelane. He dreamt of his own Constitution, but read about the huge maintenance costs. The Advisor suggested to buy a own shipyard to reduce this costs. Good idea, he thought. A few years with good but boring transport deals - and he would have made it...

Far away in the vicinity of the planet, he saw the slowly moving shapes of two Constitutions. Very good.

Suddenly the alarm went off, and the bottle of wine hit the floor. Damn. A distress call. On the scanner was a lonely Boa, obviously needing help. Lucky guy, he thought. The Constitutions will teach that pirate manners... No need for doing anything. Commander Teacox opened another bottle and watched the two Constitutions approaching the Boa. There was a third shape - a Juggernaut - also approaching the Boa. Must be a good feeling, getting help from three big-navy-fishes... But, where is that pirate?

In utter astonishment he watched, as the three big fishes opened fire on ... the Boa!!! In shock and awe, his shirt full of wine stains, he looked at the display. Not thinking about his witchspace injector, he saw the Boa encircled with missiles. First about 5, then 10, then 20 ... Then - Bang! The poor guy hadn't even the slightest chance....

He was to close already. No chance to escape anymore. On the bounty scanner he identified them as two offenders and one fugitive. Pirates with money. Now he knew, how they are dealing with the maintenance costs.... It was about time to run for the escape pod, but - they did not scan or lock on him. No red markers on the scanner, only yellow. Obviously beer-drinking pirates, not interested in a wine-freighter ...

Commander Teacox watched the big-fish-pirates drifting by. Nether ever would he tell his wife about it. Time to clean his trousers ...

Cheers,
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

be very welcome to be the very first Oolite Fiction writer for the RS/OSE Ooniverse, and then a story that's actually (imho) such a good one! :D

I got a sinking feeling at ...
Not thinking about his witchspace injector ...
... but then he is too small a fish to be of any interest to the big predators 8)

There is also a Fiction forum on the boards, perhaps you might want to post your short story there also? If you want to, I might just include it into OSE when it's finally published? Who knows, this might only be the first chapter in the adventures of Commander Teacox!

Cheers

Hi!

Thanks!

Seems my english is not too rusty ...

I know about the fiction board, and I 've read some stories already (and drew's Status Quo and Mutabilis).

Hmm, lets see. When I have one or two other experiences interesting enough to write about it, i will put the first chapter of commander Teacox' Memoirs on the fiction board.

And feel free to include the story in the OSE-release, if you like to. Maybe its good enough to give a first impression of the Oolite world with OSE.

Cheers!

Very much looking forwards to that!

I think I will! Thanks :D

That was what I was thinking - a good and atmospheric introduction.

I HAVE WWWWHHHHHAAAAAAAAAATTT?!?!?! I heard you can only get that on the planet future, witch I can't seem to find... I'm using version 1.72, I think... I'll try out that other version...

Hi FSONeblin,

no don't try the (wrongly named 1.73) trunk build, this one still has too many hiccups of its own to play with, as the devs have been explaining from time to time. OSE WiP runs on Screet's system, for example, with the trunk, but crashes on mine.

Do you still have the crash problem with the 0.4 version of the OSE WiP, under 1.72.2?

Then please remind me of the OS and the specs your computer has ...

Hope this can be resolved for your game :)

I'm using an ibook g4, and mac osx leopard. I've tried it on 1.72.2.1, and it still does not work. I'm still not too sure what I'm doing wrong... I apologias if I misunderstood your instructions, master.

Don't panic: FSOneblin.

Hi,

I've just had some log entry with the trunk version and OSE which I've never seen before:

Code: Select all

@FSONeblin:

If you are using any of the following oxps alongside OSE WiP, please follow these test instructions and see what happens:

TAKE OUT; as incompatible with OSE WiP (as they would be doubly used, sometimes including java scripts):

TAKE OUT temporarily; should work together with OSE WiP, but take out anyways in case of as yet unknown clashes:

AAACrooks,

PUT IN, as they will enhance the OSE game and perhaps there are hidden dependencies (shouldn't, but then, this is a test version):

Assassins,

Dredgers 2.2.2,
Ionics-1.2.1,
Ixian Ships 1.1 from Eric,

Please try these modifications and report if they change anything.

Before you do that, you might also try a testflight with OSE WiP in as the only oxp, just to be sure that the crashes actually have something to do with it!

<Instructions over>

Emperor Lestradae Duval, out

PS: @Screet, perhaps we should leave the testing with the trunk be atm, it is near impossible to find out what is an OSE bug and what a trunk one until both are more stable, so I will only test OSE WiP with 1.72.2 for the time being 8)
