I'm am so not a diplomat. I know what I want to say but every time I word it, it sounds so stupid.
My submission is based on Chapter 3, Captain Hesperus' ship under attack.
I know the art isn't that good. But I submitted this in order to display the lettering. I think that many of the submissions are quite nice, but I would love an opportunity to change the title, sub-title and author text to something similar to what I made.
See? Comes across as arrogant no matter how I word it (this is my fourth time trying to say this as inoffensively as possible). However, if you can forgive my inept wording and you're willing to give it a shot, I'd like to see what I can do for cover text.
So, if anyone's willing to give it a go, PM me and I'll tell you where you can send your submission. So, I'm throwing it open to y'all.

Bumped for new entry. That makes eight. Nice work.
Just to let you know, I will include all the covers (if the artists are happy) in the online version of Mutabilis as some kind of appendix. I think they all deserve show casing. Looking forward to what the board decides is going to be the winner for the front cover!
I'll start the voting on 1st December in a new thread - will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Drew.

Bumped for another entry (Last minute, well done!).
All entries on page 3 of this thread. I'll start a voting thread on monday!
Having just reviewed them all again, I'm gobsmacked by the talent this represents. It's truely awesome stuff.
I just wish I was an artist!
Cheers,
Drew.

Ooh, I like that last one... very modern and very atmospheric. I would definitely buy a book with that cover...
The one above it is good too. The one with the actual people on it. Nicely drawn and nicely characterised! Well done, whoever drew those two!

Would it be possible to use the art to make a dvd case if not used on the book, I am no artist but can arrange the dvd box art from it, so we can all have our OOlites next to our Elites on our games room shelves (if thats ok with Drew, Bob et al)
When dvd case is done will upload it for all to use or maybe have a dvd cover art competition

As a GNU/OpenSource software user (including Oolite), the importance of sharing software, music and art are a high priority for me.
My cover is (though not mentioned anywhere) free to be used, in the spirit of the GPL or as the Creative Commons, found at the beginning of Mutabilis.
My offering was done entirely in Inkscape. The original SVG file is available upon request.
My 15-year-old daughter was reviewing the submissions. When she came to mine she said: "I don't like the green stuff coming out of the back of the ship, dad."
"Why?"
"It looks too much like the nebulae."
I explained that the power of the stars was placed inside each ship, hence skimming for fuel. This ship's hull was breached, thereby leaking the "stuff of the stars" back into space. The green plasma was meant to be like the other plasma in the nebulae as well as the sparks resembling stars.
I'm not sure she bought it. But that was my intention.

Hi Mort (and welcome fellow Kent-ish person - I live in Ashford btw!),
No objection from me, a DVD box would be a great extra. You'd probably need the original layered versions of the graphics so you could strip out the 'novella' text and replace with 'The best game for any computer ever and then some...' sort of thing
Feel free to give a try with the existing stuff though.
Sounds like it might be a good idea for a separate competition to me - what do folks think?
I'd have something like this in mind... (one of my all time favourite games)
Cheers,
Drew.

Would be a good competition and to be honest I can only really reuse existing art as my art skills are non existent. Well you can check my dvd cases on
www.zzap64.co.uk on the zzuperstore page as I scan old mags and make them available on world of spectrum etc and make the dvds as donationware for the guys who don`t want to download 4+ gigs of data
Anyhow back to oolite, I will have a go myself next week and hope some of the better artists find it a good challenge!
Ps glad to hear someone else is in the Kent Nebulae, I am on the outer arm Tunbridge Wells

Need to close the competition now as I won't have time to sort it out tomorrow!
Look out for the voting thread!
Cheers,
Drew.
