No it looks good. Take some more details on it. Work with layers. Ground layer the skin. Second layer Colors with transparency, Third layer for the dirt. Last one for the details. Brush it. Take white for the edges... and so on :D (if you make a readme wrote my name in it :D :D )

I know in space it doesn't matter, and that that isn't specifically the X-perimental Shuttle, but it's always getting rendered upside down! Weird.

Is there a way of smoothing only parts of a model?

Yes. I use it all the time. Belive it or not, but the Worker's Commuter is actually smoothed :)

Instructions by Giles in making smooth models with edges, are found HERE

I make no pretense of knowing anything about building models or coding, but can you choose to smooth sub-entities in their code and leave the main entity unsmoothed?

If you wan't it smooth make it with the brush. By the way, spaceships don't need a smooth chasis. They must look hard, cold, dirty and used :D

I wouldn't want to try a dock that ship at a space station! :D

Finally happy with the general look of the Stingray, will hopefully upload it sometime this afternoon. :D

@Capt Kev - That's a very nice "meaty" model - what size is it (compared to a CMk3 for example)?

I do wish the renderer could cope with glass/tranparencies/reflection - cockpits are always the thing which doesn't look quite right (although yours is better than some).

Well done.

i got the new milkshape, does some canny transparency stuff using alpha channels - was hoping to do like girder work on my station but found out Oolite can't handle it :-(

dunno bout cockpits tho - surely given the size of the ships you'd be hard pressed to draw a pilot anyways? Hence my black screen on the Vamps
:-D

Just a quick nerdy observation, would ships, especially the larger ones, even have cockpits with windows? Would they not be redundant due to speeds/stresses/size?
Maybe a few viewing port holes but surely most flying would be done by sensor and screens could translate and relay the info to you (saying that, the ship I'm designing has a bridge like an oil tanker with a big window, but hey, it's the asthetic, hmm , may have just answered my own queery):)

aesthetics is probbly right - mind, if you fly by camera and your vid card goes t*ts up you're gonna be in trouble :-D
windows is perfectly acceptable i reckon - probbly have diamond-strong sythetics in the future etc etc and lets face it the Shuttle has windows.
