I thought about looking them up, but since it did sound like a legit organization, I didn't  (probably should have; it's just so ridiculous that it's hard to believe it was a real paper )

Hmm... Which would do a better job at driving physicists crazy? Travel
faster than light, or a floating-point boolean value?

Ahhh.. an old favourite..

Code: Select all

A Mexican newspaper reports that bored Royal Air Force pilots stationed
on the Falkland Islands have devised what they consider a marvelous new
game. Noting that the local penguins are fascinated by airplanes, the
pilots search out a beach where the birds are gathered and fly slowly
along it at the water's edge. Perhaps ten thousand penguins turn their
heads in unison watching the planes go by, and when the pilots turn
around and fly back, the birds turn their heads in the opposite
direction, like spectators at a slow-motion tennis match. Then, the
paper reports "The pilots fly out to sea and directly to the penguin
colony and overfly it. Heads go up, up, up, and ten thousand penguins
fall over gently onto their backs.

Well known myth. The penguins don't fall over. They have however increased their population in the mine field areas as the whalers can't get to them to use as fuel to render down the whale fat. No trees on the Falklands.

Still... a funny anecdote nonetheless! :D

Hmph! I thought I had archived a fortune program I developed on the Amiga in the late '80s. Must be on the original HDD, wherever that is.

Anyway, here's one I like.
An optimist believes we live in the best world possible;
a pessimist fears this is true.

I've seen these; in fact I toyed with the idea of getting one when I got a new computer earlier this year, but I was a little turned off at the lack of exact price quotes (and machines ). I was actually wondering what happened to Tricky's computer, but it was a nice reminder that Amiga is still kickin' it ;).

Interestingly, that's the exact family of cards I just got for the new computer. Click he for a pic of the HD5450 :D

For all OXP'ers...
Given sufficient time, what you put off doing today will get done by itself.
Maybe...

That prospect is about as hopeful as this one:
