Indeed, even on my anemic hardware. Fortunately, that situation is soon to be remedied.pagroove wrote:Great screenshots! Nice ship Shipbuilder

I'd forgotten about that. Plus I've not downloaded trunk (or even had time to play Oolite) recently.El Viejo wrote:As a quid pro quo, could you answer this query, JH?

Just...just...wow...
When my wife's eyes are closed, I will henceforth be gazing lovingly into another_commander's screenshots...
I know I've said this before, and that others disagree with me, but I think Oolite's graphics are as good as commercial offerings now. The lasers and exhausts have just managed to up the game again. Well done that man.

Re: Screenshots
I agree completely. The only thing it "needs" if we want to attract modern audiences is to make the external views slightly more "alive" by making the ship model move around a little during rolls, yaws etc. Also the ability to rotate the view with the simple use of mouse (instead of predetermined angles through the V key) would be a step forward to the eye-candy-land.Selezen wrote:I know I've said this before, and that others disagree with me, but I think Oolite's graphics are as good as commercial offerings now. You have two choices..jacksy wrote:gorgeous, I want that engine exhaust
You can wait for 1.78 to be released.. which will probably happen some time in the next couple of years.. (the devs are very cagey about dates)
Or you can download the current trunk (development) 1.77.xxxx "nightly build".
Note that although currently working pretty well, it's a constant work in progress, and not guaranteed to actually work properly (or at all) at any given time.
It installs alongside your normal release version, and has its own AddOns folder, settings, etc. Since you're using Windows, see here for more information, including a download link.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Re: Screenshots
Eh? The new exhausts will be in 1.77 (subject to nothing extraordinarily bad being found in them or some other reason why they may need to be ripped out), which should be out reasonably soon I would guess. Certainly before the next couple of years.

Not likely in the near future, if I read the runes correctly... but you never know!jacksy wrote:... will there be a 64b version for windows at some point?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Maybe I'm labouring under a misunderstanding.. I was under the impression that the Oolite devs had decided to adopt the Linux Kernel system of odd-numbers being the development branch, and even-numbers being releases..Thargoid wrote:Eh? In other words, when it's ready for mainstream, 1.77.xxxx will be released as 1.78, and the new trunk will be 1.79.xxxx
(the "within a couple of years" was partly a joke, partly to not create undue expectations about a release, and partly a nod to the old MNSR days)
For jacksy and other newcomers, MNSR is "Mythical Next Stable Release", a term which came into use during the long years between the stable 1.65 release and the next stable release, 1.76.
