@Doc and TGHC - A common thought, a common dream, a simple aspiration - that Oolite grows with us - way beyond its original confines - Giles provided the hammer and chisel but we must carve the stone...
Sorry came over all wordsmith like there - must be the supressed writer in me - he sneaks out sometimes when I'm not looking....

The way I've always envisioned it is that the 8 galaxies are all small clusters of planets spaced pretty far apart around the galaxy.
The IGH is a device that creates a hypertunnel branch to existing 'wormholes' in the hyperspace realm that lead directly to these sectors, which is why you have to go through them in order. These wormholes have a sort of 'current', meaning that a ship can only travel through them one way. A lot of time and effort was put into making sure that there was a way to get back to Galaxy 1 before making it a common occurrence.
The reason they are colloquially known as Galaxies is that when the first wormhole was discovered, the chappie that went through reported back that all the constellations and worlds were different. His first hypothesis was that the wormhole led to another galaxy, and so they were labelled Galaxies. It would be another hundred or so years until anyone worked out that these areas were actually star clusters in the same galaxy, but by then the name had kind of stuck.
As far as the OXPs and universal integroty is concerned, I think that's down to the community at large to decide. In my opinion, though, there should be a distinct divide between OXPs that are considered to be serious and ones that are tongue in cheek. The Star Wars one, for example, should be labelled as a fictional add on and not part of the Oolite 'canon'.
My tuppence worth, anyway...

Real World work has been slow today, so I've finished off a faily long background piece for my OXPs. Be cool to see some other authors add stuff to this page!

Extract from the Wiki:
The exact procedures by which the Guild recruits new members are unknown. It is thought that the Guild has operatives within the Elite Federation of Pilots, who pass on the details of likely candidates to the "Guild Master".
You only need 200 kills to trigger the first mission, so it must be grooming!! My mum told me never to accept sweets from strangers!

Would it be worth adding links to the articles for the Federation and the Empire and Seldar Shipyards to that Powers and Organisations article?

Absolutely! I'm thinking of adding sections for each government type (I think it's about time the differences are shown for new players) as well as links for Dr. Nil's Commies.oxp and so forth.

And I've just added an entry to the wiki for one of my OXPs, which I'll upload to OOsat2a shortly:

And if you want to include it, the Alliance:

The
Powers and Organisations page on the Oolite Wiki is going well. I'm just starting to compile the data for ships to begin adding ship entries. One sticking point is this: is there some arcane (i.e. incomprehensible to the likes of plebs such as I) formula to equate Energy 'ratings' to energy banks? I mean the Adder has an Energy rating of 85 and only the one energy bank, while the Cobbie III has 256 and 4 banks. A Python rates 450 with 7 banks while the Anaconda has a rating of 500 and 7 banks, the BCC 525 and 8 banks, while the Naga wieghs in at 650 and 10 banks.
Anybody?

Think its divide energy by 64 to get the number of banks.
So Cobra has 4.0 and the Annaconda has 7.8, but Oolite dosen't display what would be an incomplete bar so only shows 7. An Adder has 1.3, so Oolite draws 1 bank.

+++A message to all Pimp My Cobra Modders+++
I'm thinking of adding an addendum to the Cobra III entry detailing the fabulous mod-jobs. Could the authors send me a PM with the entry's name, stats (if different from the original) and any background gumph you'd like to have immortalised?

I’d reccomend echoing that in
the PMC thread.

@The Capt'n: I added links to some of your recent articles on the Oolite Ships page...
Edit:
...I hope that it's ok.
I used cutouts from your screen shots.
Edit:
No sarcasm intended here. What I meant was that I hope you hadn't already done the cutouts for the link page too.

@Dr. Nil - Not a prob. To be honest, I'd forgotten about the Ships entry section
I'm doing night shifts at the local hospital, I probably won't be able to go onto the Wiki/BB/etc. til Monday (Damn the NHS with their filtered Web access!!)

@Cap'n H - MOD machines are worse - most sites are blocked (including all the really useful ones (well ones I deem useful)) - even our "unclassified/unlimited" access ones are fully monitored - accidently stray onto a dodgy site and a man will turn up before the day is out and ask you to explain how you ended up where you did....
So you're training to be a nurse (you mad bu99er - I should know my ex-bro-in-law is one and my wife's a radiographer) at least now I know why you're sometimes on the forums at strange times of the day (and night!)
Keep up the good work on the wiki's your entries are superb!

I did an update of
the page on Stations to make it look like the Ships page (with images and columns).
