we have magnanimously decided that Commander_X shall be deemed to be the winner of the snakey boots( that smell a bit fishy).
On the grounds that its time someone other than Cody, myself ,Disembodied or Smivs wins a round....
<Chuckles>
I think Dredgerman should get an honourable mention as well. He's almost as sad as the rest of us :D
yes i did realise i maligned our honourable colleague by not mentioning him. my sincerest apologies....
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

<shiny eyes>Snakey boots with a bit of fishy smell received. A bit of whisky poured in for their, and later my treatment, you know, Stalin-like :)

An easy one from the new comer: Waff and Horza, what do they have in common?
to see if i am on the correct track.... Waff from Dune series Herbert? and Horza from Ian M Banks Consider Phelbas ( culture series) ?
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.

<nods> Yes, you're on the right track - I think.

Possible answer: the art of impersonation?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

That's the correct answer! Both civilizations were backing shape shifting with the main purpose of impersonation.

Here sir, the snakey boots with less of the fishy smell, are yours!

Does a direction to a metalworker lead to an interplanetary outlaw?

Northwest Smith - possibly the inspiration for the Han Solo character. The snakeskin boots are yours, sir!

Trivia: the author of the Northwest Smith stories, C. L. Moore, was a friend of another early female sci-fi writer - Leigh Brackett - who wrote/worked on the first screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back. Though it was (apparently) not used by Lucas, she did receive a credit (apparently).

"The Disc was in darkness now, but the little orbiting sun was giving a brief day to the face of the waterfall. While Kin watched it climbed above her and disappeared as the ship overtook it."

Which SF novel is this from (and I stress SF, not fantasy!)

Correct! It's his take on Ringworld, only a disc world rather than a ring, the last novel he wrote before The Colour of Magic. Great fun, now sadly a bit obscure, and has bits of a lot of ideas that later turned up in the Discworld series, and some VERY weird explanations for them.

Your turn!
