Northwest Smith - possibly the inspiration for the Han Solo character. The snakeskin boots are yours, sir!

Trivia: the author of the Northwest Smith stories, C. L. Moore, was a friend of another early female sci-fi writer - Leigh Brackett - who wrote/worked on the first screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back. Though it was (apparently) not used by Lucas, she did receive a credit (apparently).

Correct! It's his take on Ringworld, only a disc world rather than a ring, the last novel he wrote before The Colour of Magic. Great fun, now sadly a bit obscure, and has bits of a lot of ideas that later turned up in the Discworld series, and some VERY weird explanations for them.
