Waiting in anticipation for the multi-decal scuffed version.Griff wrote:still plugging away at this overcomplicated cobraIII, I had to angle the screen shot to hide all the unfinished bits and brighten it up in photoshop so it wasn't just a muddy grey rectangle with a muddier triangle ship on it![]()
Yay, another cobra template to use to remake the many cobra variations, nice work GriffGriff wrote:still plugging away at this overcomplicated cobraIII, I had to angle the screen shot to hide all the unfinished bits and brighten it up in photoshop so it wasn't just a muddy grey rectangle with a muddier triangle ship on it![]()
Thanks, Griff. It's actually the first model I made that I think is worth packing into an OXP.Griff wrote:Nice bit of work on that ship RyanHoots, it certainly looks very fast! Actually, it looks like something might would swarm out of some sort of 'space hive' like angry space bees and accelerate away at crazy angles like the 'tharglets' can when they're attacking
The star-shape might suggest something like "Shuriken" ... or (sticking with small, thrown weapons) you could call it a "Dart", maybe? Or even go for a type of dart, like "Kestros"?RyanHoots wrote:Got a little project. It's a small escort fighter, probably not player-buyable. I am in the texturing stage. I think I'm going to call it the Dagger Class Fighter, but name suggestions are welcome.
I like Kestros. Thanks, Disembodied.Disembodied wrote:The star-shape might suggest something like "Shuriken" ... or (sticking with small, thrown weapons) you could call it a "Dart", maybe? Looks nice... I like the slim profile. A difficult target when it's flying towards you. It gets 4 stars for model design.mandoman wrote:Um, I wasn't sure how to do this, as it's my first try. I have been designing ships for weeks, but this is the first one that really came together the way I wanted. I call it the Sun Bat. I hope I haven't copied someone else' work by accident. All I could think of to do was to take screenshots of the Sun Bat while it was still in Blender. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Do you really think this could make a decent oxp for Oolite? I didn't expect to get that lucky. Funny you should mention an owl, as that was initially what I was going to call it, except in German, which is Uhu. A couple of WWII fighters from Germany were named Uhu. When I finished the ship, I decided that it looked more bat like, than owl. Lasers at the wing tips, definitely. I tried to color the areas, at which lasers would be, red, but it isn't overly evident in those images I posted. I have since then imported the texture png into Gimp, and did a little fine tuning. Hopefully the lasers will be more evident now. The Sun Bat is suppose to be off-putting, so I'm glad to read you say that. It's meant to be a hunter/killer, and not much else. I've been studying the process of making an oxp, and it seems within reach, though I'm going to need to borrow heavily from other oxps. Is that a problem, or should I try from scratch?Killer Wolf wrote:nice looking ship, although the skin's a bit off-putting as it looks like a big owl staring at me in the top pic
be a nice addition to the Ooniverse, are you going to put a laser at each wing tip to increase its lethality?
Yes indeed! As RyanHoots said above, its slim profile means it'll be hard to shoot at certain angles, so you'll probably have to out-maneuver it to get a clean shot. And they look pretty ominous too - I certainly wouldn't want to meet a whole pack of them. I can imagine them lurking out near the sun in packs, waiting to prey on sunskimmers where there are fewer GalCop ships about, and then returning to a base somewhere.mandoman wrote:Do you really think this could make a decent oxp for Oolite?
