As a matter of interest, where these old ship.oxps are broken, what actually broke them? Was it primarily changes under Jens (2006-13: v1.7), mostly changes under Cim (2013-5: v.1.80-82), or more recent matters? Changes in AI? Changes in ship description? Other stuff?

Perhaps the classic shipdata.plist hinders it...
Graphics part texture/model seem to be rescueable.

Well, most of the "old" ship OXP's still function, what a lot of the time is needed is an adaption to the later Oolite versions. Textures and js nowadays offer a lot more possibilities than before. Some, like GalTech, had wrong definitions, which is more a bug. Vector mission is broken because of outdated external packages, the ships still working fine. Antient Aliens is still under development and never was finished, what I will try is to extract parts of the OXP and design a remake in the spirit of the original.

Griff's Krait will get a fresh up, while the master himself will take care of textures and shaders I will assist a bit with the shipdata.plist and the multiple lasers.

I have Eric's version, so no spawning, but you could shoot the subs off.
