Usually that would be an indication that the other ships are not so similar after all. Most ship designers set their retail prices based on the ship's basic stats: speed, manoeuverability, weaponry, cargo space, energy and energy recharge. The better those are, the higher the base price.
Some ships do not have the basic stats to justify their high price. The most famous example would be the ordinary Fer-de-Lance from the original set. For its technical specifications it is overpriced. But then you have to take into account the luxurious interior design as well, and the aura of exclusivity connected to being a FdL owner.

Hi greenseng, Welcome to the Ooniverse.
I think a good book works in the same way. It doesn't limit the cognitive processes.
And this makes Oolite the perfect game.
Couldn't agree more.
But back to servicing your ship.
I always go to a military station, buy a few war bonds each time. Ye they are a grand a pop. but worth it when you start getting the discounts. I don't know how the % work but I get 75% off with 680 war bonds. Or is it I only pay 75%. will have to read that closer the next time. I also buy all my equipment there too.
They are easy to find if you have the maps. See ClymAngus cartography about them if not.
Fraid I don't know how to put links in a post.

Actually, this doesn't seem to be the case. Only the base cost multiplier of the station might have any effect on the prices of the ships...and since most secondary OXP stations don't have shipyards and main stations always have a cost multiplier of 1x, I don't even remember seeing overpriced ships anywhere.
Doing maintenance lets you resell your ship for considerably more than before doing maintenance...so if you're trading ships, it's worth doing if you aren't on a time limit.

Well... an example here:
I came to a station where they had two Boa's. As I could see they had no extras. Simply "raw" ships.
Now.. one costed the basic prize. The other one was much more expensive.
But I could see no reason why.
But... I just had started to play Oolite so maybe I missed something.
And I didn't have the money to buy them so I couldn't see if there was something hidden here.

That is nice to hear. I always wondered: what's so special with Fer-de-Lance?
The only thing I have noticed is that they are very good at running away when they found themselves in trouble.

Well... I don't know very much about military stations. I want to finish the native missions first.
Have this Thargoid mission still undone. But it is waiting behind the corner.
To my big surprize I found out that I already have finished the Cloaking Device mission.
Suddenly a ship started to fire at me but I had problems to see it.
But somehow I managed to take it down. I scooped its strange cargo.
When I came to the station I found out that I was the happy owner of a new device.
And when I bought a new ship - it followed.
A look in the save-file said that the mission was handled.
The guy was clean so obviously you can be a pirat but still stay clean with the help of this device.
Got all the polices in the Galaxy after me.
So - I jumped to the next Galaxy and became clean again.
Sometimes things can be surprising.

The FerDeLance's zero-G bidet is a work of pure genius.

I think seatbelts were the essential equipment involved here.

You can also stay clean
without its help.
All good pirates are clean. The secret behind this is really simple: the police can only mark you for your offenses if they
watch said offenses. If they don't watch, they don't know. In other words: you can do
whatever you want, as long as there is no purple blip on your scanner. As soon as you see a purple blip, brace yourself and behave. You can easily finish off that fat Anaconda when the cops have gone outside scanner range.

Yes, legal records are kept on a "per galaxy" basis. For some odd technical or bureaucratic reason they are not passed to the other galaxies, even though the GalCop authorities actually govern all galaxies. Well, whatever the exact reason is, pilots can be happy that a galactic jump effectively clears their record.
Note that your legal record also gets cleared over time
without leaving the galaxy. There is a statute of limitations, after all. Also, small offences (parking violations and such) tend to be not enforced outside the system where they occurred. As a result your legal status goes done simply from jumping to the next system. If you do that often enough—and don't commit more crimes; or at least don't get caught in the act—you will eventually become clean again even in your current galaxy.

Oh yes indeed... but it retains the essence and magic of the original.
I first tasted Elite on a ZX Sinclair Spectrum. 48 kB ram with 8 kB used for graphic and channels. So a programmer had only 40 kB to play with.
Still don't understand how they managed to put a game like Elite into such a machine. The first 3D at least for Spectrum.
Many people thought it was impossible to make 3D for such a device.
I was stunned at this game. Today they have access to such Graphic and Sounds. Still they are not even close.
Think it has to do with fantasy. The game allows something like a movie in your head. It doesn't put limitations for the fantasy.
I think a good book works in the same way. It doesn't limit the cognitive processes.

You're not the only one here who first played Elite on a good old rubber-keyed 48k Spectrum and I bet we're not the only two either.
I'm not sure about "perfect" but Oolite definitely comes pretty damn close, IMHO. Game on!

Now that you mention war bonds, I bought a few (maybe half a dozen) the first opportunity I got, but since then I've never been offered them again at Naval Bases when I've dropped by for some odd reason.
