Oh well… it seems that I’ve upset GalCop again. Still, at least there was no ‘attitude adjustment’ this time. What I’d like to know is: what does a Thatoid look like? I can sort-of picture a Lobstoid or whatever, but a Thatoid… all I know is, they’re real messy.

Firstly, I will admit I don't know.

But a bit of quick hunting to find something to fudge up an answer from yielded the following hits for

Thato: http://www.namespedia.com/index.php/Thato

Thatu: http://www.thatu.org/

and Thata: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/590092/thata

Sooo.. Might have been either a prayer meeting, the mess left after some org packed up a bunch of food to give to the impoverished, or you were cleaning up after a bunch of musicians.

Any of those seem likely enough on a station, and you have our sympathies in any case.

I am just curious, what HUD do you use? And more importantly, where can I get it?

Hi byronarn and welcome.

That's a slightly customised version of CaptKev's Fighter Hud Mk I.
I should add that the ‘Arrival Report’ screen is from the Background Set oxp, which is very cool.

Much goodness about oxp's in general can be found on the Wiki.

thanks!

How did you modify it? since I have no skills at hud modification, is there anywhere I can download the modified version?

I had no skills at modification either, or any graphics skills. I downloaded GIMP, which is free, and played around with the hud image (hud.png) in the oxp. GIMP makes customising or creating such things quite easy… have a go at it, it’s fun. If you can’t get the effect you want, I’ll help with an already modified image.

Good hunting, commander!

I already have GIMP, so guess I will give it a whirl! :) Thanks!

Good… if you already have some knowledge of GIMP, then it should be easy.

Make a back-up copy of hud.png and store it somewhere else first, then tinker with the image, adding what you wish, or removing the glass panel with the eraser. Things like the colour of the scanner grid, and the text labels (speed, fuel etc) can be adjusted in the oxp hud.plist with a text editor. Don’t use Windows Notepad… Wordpad is fine, but it’s well worth getting Notepad++.

Yeah, removing the glass pane was the first thing I did! I found that thing extremely annoying! lol. As for what else I am going to modify, I haven't decided yet! LOL.

I already have Notepad++ (I downloaded it when I was dabbling in java) so I will take a look at that too. I just need to try and find an overall pattern to the file. It gave me a headache at first glance. lol.

Thanks for all your help!!! I really appreciate it!

Edit: Is it possible to adjust the position of the messages you recieve while in space ("Withspace jump in 15 seconds...", for example)? The top of my HUD partially covers this text up...

Just a quick 'tale', but a significant one for me. Just a modest bit of trading...I stopped off at a few rock hermits en route to a TL14 Industrial planet and picked up all the usuals (minerals, radioactives and gems/gold etc), and sold them on arrival. Just out of curiosity I checked the shipyard when I noticed...

Yeah... but only if you sell your ship and start walking.
You need to get your average earnings up above 1,000 Cr per shipday.

Thinking about it, the hud shouldn’t obscure the messages in their default position. Is your hud flush to the bottom of your display, or is there a gap beneath it? If so, what display size do you have? There’s an alternative hud1280x1024.plist in the oxp config folder… just move the hud.plist elsewhere, and rename hud1280x1024.plist to hud.plist… that may help.

Not exactly from the Spacelane, but I did find out what happens to El Viejo after he gave up life as a Contrabandista...

I run Oolite in 800x600 fullscreen.

You know that metal looking bar where the glass viewscreen was before i erased it? thats whats covering the text. If that little bar wasn't there the text would be perfect. I am half tempted to just erase that bar, but then the hud would appear incomplete...
