Anyhoo, didn't mean to be too negative about your ideas Rusti - you should definitely think of making them into OXPs
Don't ever let the ideas stop! :D
The thing is ive left another forum because all i did was make a few suggestions and because the 'puritains' didnt like them i got hounded out. I dont want the same here. From now on i will put OXP idea in the thread title to make sure peoploe dont get the wrong idea.

You may get hounded here. You may even be shot at with lasers. But I've been here for two years now, and have said a lot of stupid things (and IMHO some smart ones that didn't go over very well), and have yet to be hounded out.

It's just a "spirited exchange of ideas". With lasers. Just shoot back!

No one thinks less of anyone because they have interesting ideas. Internet forums are hard places to talk, you dont get all the facial expressions, body language, and an off the cuff remark often looks like a considered and constructed attack.

I like the ideas, I just dont think they fit oolite. Im pretty sure that other people want an oolite more like your suggestion. You might want to pm Lestradae and talk about folding it into his project.

A weapon that depletes a ship's energy without causing physical damage, effectively disabling a ship without harming the ship, its contents or crew and passengers.

Except that when it takes another physical hit and energy gets to zero it blows up, which kinda puts a crimp in things ;)

How about a weapon that forces the pilot to eject? Perhaps with a missile containing a virus that targets the escape capsule circuitry.

I havent seen anything public about oolite 2. All that is happening now is oolite 1.x

Lestradae is working on a parallel oolite version (or OXP, Im not actually sure any more) that will extend oolite to be much more open to new ships, equipment and so on. It is essentially an extension of his "realistic shipyards" work.

Apologies if this isnt exactly correct, but I think its close enough for your needs to understand what I meant.

That should be easy enough to do...

Puts me in mind of the recent "active denial" weapons that various places are testing for crowd control, like the directed sound burst that's so loud it brings you to your knees, or the low-intensity microwave beam that makes you feel like your skin is on fire (but according to the engineers, does no actual harm; yeah, right). Make the pilot think his ship is about to explode, and he'll hit the T-handle right quick.

Confirmed as working in a technical sense.

But of course it requires the target ship to have an escape pod in the first place, which for OXP ships are rarer than you might think...

What happens when the player is hit? Or is this a player only weapon?
