It seems to be a rare event, I'd guess about 1 trigger for 8 or 9 hours play, but it may be only triggering on my longer sessions. I never really took notes of when it triggers.

Mmm I never had it triggered in G2. How long does it take on average?
According to the docs events occur every 30-40 days (gametime) and last for about 20 days. Should be enough time to get to a location from across the galaxy to take advantage!

I've seen two events so far, but was in the middle of passenger/cargo missions and couldn't get there.

Perhaps the oxp could be expanded and include events of galaxy-wide importance, affecting prices everywhere?

To confirm, this OXP runs in all galaxies. The frequency and duration of events can be modified very easily in the script, so I'm open to making changes based on people's experience.

As noted in the readme, galaxy-wide events are possible but through a slightly different method and I'll be looking into that. In the meantime, why not post up some ideas for more wide ranging events? I struggled to come up with decent mission text for the specific events (even after I borrowed all the info in the Special Events thread), so any ideas would be appreciated.

How often do natural disasters happen on Earth? I have no idea, but at a guess every couple of months. But multiply up by 256 planets in a galaxy sector, then there ought to be one every couple of days on average.

The only worry upping the rate of events in BlOomberg would be the filling up of the mission screen, but I believe this problem has been improved in 1.74.

How about a supernova in a nearby uninhabited system (neighbouring the galaxy sector) but one that affects radiation levels in a swathe of planets or whole galaxy sector? This could affect food production levels or require medical supplies to be brought in (Narcotics?).

how about a mutated bio/electro virus that could be spread by living or ship causing strict quarantining in certain systems.
Would make for interesting black market runs past blockades.

Hmm, high prices for food vs the risk of getting a virus (sort of a SUPER trumbles)

Where did this come from.

Just got back into Oolite, and will have to give it a go.

Someone wrote it! You shouldn't have gone away, because stuff like this gets released all the time!

:(

I thought I could find a better space game. *le-sigh*

Upon return I found this AND snoopers.

Anyway, with these new OXP's, would there be a way to add a mission BBS? I would kill for a mission board with stuff from RH, GN, and UPS.

Fantastic job with this OXP. I love the idea.

Apparently trunk has had its mission screen reworked. Maybe something along those lines, not sure?

It will have some nice background images scriptable via OXP. See this thread here: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.ph ... 718#103718

  Anyone (else) here play the Traveller role-playing game? And if yes, care to give their views on the "issues" caused when GDW introduced Virus to the game?

Basically, what GDW did was to 'let' one faction in a galactic civil war develop a silicon-based Virus that was transmitted by the transponder every ship had to carry under Imperial law. Unfortunately for the Imperium and their neighbours - and even the people who released it - Virus was intended to infect as many systems as possible, then commit suicide and take as many (enemy) living population as possible.
What's so bad about that? Picture your average Oolite ship chock full of cargo and jump-driving into the nearest station or planet...

GDW did this to mark a complete break between two different 'flavours' of Traveller - MegaTraveller (MT) with the civil war (aka 'the Rebellion') and Traveller:The New Era (T:TNE - which introduced new game mechanics and a much more limited mileau for players to (ab)use...).
Player (and games-master) reactions' polarized between those who basically thought Virus was a good idea and breathed new life into the game, and those who thought it should never have seen the light of day since it basically destroyed the Imperium...

Obviously, this would (probably??) be an OXP so there is no need to load it if you don't want to run the risk of such a catastrophe hitting the Ooniverse, and of course the effects should be more controllable because the Oolite equivalent of T:TNE's Virus (Viroos?) would be written so that it couldn't just start spreading through all the ships in space... even though that's pretty much what Lucan thought when he got his people to create Virus in the first place...

Mind you, one of the more fun side effects was that Virus - since it was a "living" programme - mutated and grew to produce many different strains from the original Suicider, through Suicide-Inducers (infect one ship and then get it to tell all other ships to suicide) to such thngs as Hobbyists (from infecting specialist ships - ie one particular example given was of a research ship that decided to carry on watching stars rather than go and blow itself up) and Mothers (ships who decided that they would nurture and protect the flashy things within rather than killing them off)...

Not saying this is a bad idea - just suggesting caution if anyone decides to go ahead with it :)

After a friendly reminder from Svengali I've uploaded a new version of BlOomberg Markets to include integration with Snoopers OXP. This means that the market news will be delivered through the Snoopers news service as an additional channel, rather than as a completely separate mission screen. For the moment all the other details have remained the same.

Note that this requires Oolite v1.74. Enjoy!

UH! And I thought I only asked for the status. Love your answer, hehe .-)

...grabbing... .-)

BlOomberg coincidence!

Just docked and received an update from BlOomberg with a planet selling cheap slaves. Imagine my surprise to also find a Platinum contract to that very same planet! :D

Lucky you! And with 19 days you should easily be able to make it to Intisoar. What's the premium on the contract?
