There seem to be two .dat files in that case namely:
arcdetail.dat AND new_Coriolis.dat
Why aren't these in one .dat file?
But I asume that this are all the .dat files that should be adapted in case of making such an OXP?

The archdetail is a subentry. If you want to leave the subentry as it is on your corollis then you only need to change the main model. If you wanted to repaint the archdetail as well then you deed to do a renamed version pointing to the new subentry and do a renamed cone of the model.

I do not have the programming skills. But I'm sure anyone of the scripters can make such a competition happen.
It sounds fun to me
I can't promise anything at the moment but if it is only a matter of creating a new skin then I'll try to find some time. Gritty Coriolis is one of my favourite OXP's, I'd love to see some more "realistic" stations.

Nice,
Looking forward to see it. If you have screenies post them here

With the new support in Oolite, there's the possibility of 'lighting up' a space station; having lights on across the station's sides or even adverts and company logos on stations in Corporate systems

33.3%, not 25%.
...and to give it a 50% chance you would need just the role coriolis. (There are two items in the pool each with an equal chance). However if there were 19 entries, then there would be 20 items in the pool and if they all had the role coriolis then the orginal coriolis would only have a 1/20 chance of appearing. ...
Indeed.
... So don't you need to reduce the role proability for each competion entry to less than 1 if you want the chance of a competion entry being chosen to be 50%? With 10 entries should each role have a coriolis(0.05) to make the total chance of a competion entry being chosen to be 50%?
No, with ten entries the role-entry should be
coriolis(0.1) for each. 10 * 0.1 = 1, which puts all the entries together in the pool exactly as often as the standard Coriolis, which has also a value of 1. So in half of the cases one of the competition entries would be chosen. And among those there's an equal chance for each.
Problem is: This is only correct if there are
exactly ten entries. For any other number of entries the number in brackets has to be different, in order to achieve the same result, giving the standard Coriolis a 50%-chance.
So how do the competitors know beforehand, how many competition entries there will be? They can't know. So they also can't know which number to put in the brackets.
Therefore it is impractical to aim at this exact distribution: 50% chance for the standard Coriolis, 50% for all the entries combined.

You don't need to look forward to it. The GrittyCoriolis.oxp has been there for ages. Just download it from the Wiki's
OXP-page and put it in your AddOns folder.
You may also have a look at the
Stations-page, although it isn't complete (e.g. the Gritty Coriolis is missing).

Very cool work on the texture pagroove!
The "pimp my colriolis" comp. sounds like a great idea, anyone know if the coriolis model is available in a wings or obj format? i don't think it's in the collection of ships in "wings" format that i downloaded from oosat.
:edit: Ah, there's only 16 vertices in the model so it wasn't to much of a job just copying their position data from the .dat my modeling program.
Captain Hesperus's idea to use shaders to add lights to the station sounds great, plus Ahrumans animated billboard would work brilliantly for electronic displays/adverts etc on the stations hull.

Commander McLane,
I know of the Gritty. I have installed it about a year ago. It's a nice variant of the Corolius. I look forward to new fresh paint jobs.
You are excactly right that we cannot know beforehand how many entries there will be. Maybe it's wise to let anyone just send an adapted texture set and make the OXP with the distribution after the competition is closed. Is this a good idea?
My entry is sure.

Griff,
An updated model with either (randomized?) adds or neon lights or even a text display can be great.

Captain Hesperus,
I like the idea. With more variations of stations you feel like visiting unique worlds. On the other hand we have to make sure it's not a framerate killer

Had a bit of a go at this, couldn't resist beveling some of the edges though and adding lots of 'sticky-out' bits all over the hull.

I've got the station to a fairly complete stage now model & texture wise,
i haven't yet had a go at the scripting to get it to occasionally pop up as a replacement for the main system in game, but i'll upload the oxp here with a test script to generate one everytime the player launches from the main station.
edit: Cheers for the tip about getting the station to appear in-game LB> I've updated the oxp to include your fix. I've just noticed though that i forgot to change the station name making me look like i'm running Galcorp!
For anybody who tries it out in oolite with shaders enabled - too shiny?
get it here:
http://www.box.net/shared/usalnsfocc
i really want to get one of ahrumans animated billboards placed on the station hull somewhere, maybe showing some joke system information - weather reports for the planet below? economic forecasts? a sign saying no trumbles allowed?
