Not likely it will not work. But it overwrites the original rock Hermit in memory. Some other OXP could also do the same, but I do not know any OXP that does that. It is more likely you also have pirate_cove installed. Those "rock_hermites" are no real hermites and get no location by the locator. The real ones however, must be found by it.

I've had the same issue. It's never worked for me with 1.65.

I just tested it with a clean 1.65 install , The locator works fine... notice it will take a moment(5 seconds) for the advanced space compas to update.. Space is big,, very big... ;-)

I even downloaded it from my own link, so it is also couble checked...

You will need the Advanced Space Compas too, in order for you to be able to target a rock hermit with it ofcourse..

Now im up to my head in wedding preparations, so ill not be able to respond much here....

Thanks to Erich Walch for his support in this thread.. :-)

I'm using the version of Oolite thats in the Ubuntu repository.
I installed the "Rock Hermit" locator oxp, and its working because I was able to purchase one. BUT, Now I'm staring at a rock hermit, and pressing \ to flip through the advanced compass options never shows a R. I've got N, W, all the standard options, but no R.

I'm not using a Pirate Cove oxp.

Am I missing a step here?

thanks!

# shifts the view just like hitting 3 on my system. Pressing \ DOES cycle through the advanced compass targets, I get planet, sun, nav beacon, witchpoint beacon, and optionally targeted object. But never an R for Rock Hermit. <sigh>

I think that the \ and # business is due to the differences in UK and US keyboards. Can't check as I only have UK keyboards in the house.

As far as the OXP itself, it has never worked for me in 1.65,1.69.1.7.0 and 1.71

proper rock hermits are really quite rare. Pirate coves (if you have the OXP) are really quite common. So the locator doesn't find most of them.

Perhaps the rock hermit locator OXP should be updated to detect pirate coves as well?

Without being able to tell the difference between the two.
Just to keep the game interesting :).

Fair enough. Incidentally I find it ironic that:
1. The Rock Hermit launches ships against you.
2. You clock up bounties from the ships and collect some debris and cargo.
3. You can sell the loot back to the Hermit and refuel.
4. You can then destroy the hermit, get a further bounty and collect the debris
