i agree with the restart and load options available in-flight. would be quite useful.

I don't think it's necessary. You can pretty easily kill yourself while in flight. And then you get all the restart and load options.

"There are those (myself not included) who consider the "save at every station" technique to be a terrible form of cheating!"

pff. there are those (myself included) who have lost a lot of game time due to the game crashing and vanishing for no discernible reason whatsoever. losing 3 hours of gameplay THAT was is simply not acceptable, so i save the instant i dock : because, i've had the fricker crash when changing from F5 to F8 whilst docked too.
you hyper in, get jumped by a pirate cove contingent, get the sht kicked outta you, manage to prevail, scoop a nice wedge of consisters, Torus on, get jumped again, make some cool kills....game window vanishes. not funny. put a couple hours unsaved trading in front of that, and it's even less so.

there are some long missions like assassins that you would never complete without saving.

Hell, yeah! Just had to re-kill Inno Soin because my savegame got corrupted (I know not how ). That little get kept Nova bombing me before I could hype-out.

He he he! I had set the difficulty in assassins for a player in an Iron Cobra III, but I did assume you would save between missions. Each mission can be done in a standard Cobra III (although I am assuming you've blinged it out if your taking up assassination as a proffession!). Each mission has a trick to it though. There's one that I've completed in an adder, but you would be blown away in a Tiger or IC if you didn't work out the cunning plan needed! Currently playtesting a V1.3 that works on the new version of Oolite. Will release in a couple of weeks, but it is a big one to playtest! For the moment if you have the windows build, you'd need to play on 1.67 or below. The new build fixes the broken script commands, as Another Commander has e-mail me it for playtesting, but don't know if this is offical yet!

@Captain. The occasional curruption of a save file when a mission changes state is a know bug (applies to native as well as OXP missions), got me with Thargoid Plans. Do save as Jameson1, Jameson2, Jameson3 then back to Jameson1 if you are playing assassins (or really any mission). Its a very rare bug, but because of the size of the script, you're just more likley to hit it. If you hit it on Jameson3. Reload Jameson2 and then you only have to do one stage again rather than start again. I only hit it once in playtesting (it seems to be one of those 1 in a 1000 things, but with assassins making about 300 mission stage changes, the odds you'll hit in assassins are much more likley than in a mission that only has a couple of state changes). Did put a warning the the readme about this!
