It makes the game somewhat easier...in the core game, not much, as there are only basic and ecm-hardened missiles. Both make a woop-woop sound when launched and are visible in the scanner. But in the armada scenario from TCAT I just played it was a big help; at most it is in a crowded thargoid battle when you mistakenly think no missiles are targeting you but just thargons. I think this was the cause of my unexpected BOOM press space encounters.

Ahh.. fair enough.. I was under the impression it was buyable..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
