@Huntress: how are you earning your offender/fugitive status? Running narcotics?

Well... I may have accidently fired at the main station while taking part in a brawl, and then there was this civilian I hit while trying to get out of there, I may have pushed the wrong button and accidently released a quirium mine that I had on hand....
Yeah, it could've been any of those things...

<grins> Cool - reminds me a little of Becca the Hermit Slayer!

how can you let off a mine near the station and survive? I've tried many times and I go pop.

QCMs deploy to your rear - get the station on your six, deploy the QCM, hit the injectors, and run like hell!

Do I need a faster ship than my Cobra? I use the injectors and then I see the "press space bar" message.
Does it take the station out of play?

Anything on injectors - even an Anaconda - should be able to outrun the QCM explosion. However ... the correct order is "drop the mine", "hit the injectors". If you do it the other way round, the mine gets dropped at injector velocity and is still right behind you when it goes off.

The main system station cannot be destroyed through taking too much damage.

I've had a problem with one of the RRS missions. It's the one where you have to recover an ejected pilot with the high danger level. It's the one where the pilot hasn't contacted the station but they "hope it's a communication malfunction". Do any of you know how to complete this? When you get to the station you hear that the pilot's been taken by slavers and are given the location of the slaver base, but the person who tells you this also says you can't do this by yourself. How is this supposed to work? If you hire escorts will they help, because I've tried rescuing the pilot on my own two different ways, and none were successful.

That's their opinion. Depending on your flying skills it may not necessarily be true - and more importantly, by the time backup has arrived it'll be too late for the pilot.
There's a few ways to do it, but the safest is probably
1) Clear out all the guards around the base, and any more that get launched. You'll probably have a tough fight on your hands here, but you can take your time and retreat a bit if you need to. Don't be afraid to throw a couple of hardheads around if you need to.
2) Once the area's reasonably clear, shoot up the base until it starts throwing sparks - and then stop! Keep it damaged but alive and a freighter will make a break for it.
3) Switch targeting to the freighter and open fire. Don't kill it, but make sure it knows you're onto it. Get it right, and it'll dump some cargo pods to distract you just before it jumps.
4) Pick up the cargo pods. If you're really quick, you'll be able to get them all before the wormhole closes; more likely the freighter will escape. Let it, if so - it's the pods you're after.
5) Get the pods back to a station for unpacking and rescue, then head home.
It's one of the hardest of the RRS combat missions - it's very easy to get distracted in the fight and have the freighter escape, plus there's a lot of opposition.

Thanks for the help, cim!
You have no idea how much this frustrated me. After my second attempt,
well... let's just say that the pilot wouldn't be going home anytime soon.

I also have some questions about the Random Hits OXP. If you take on a contract that's about 7000 Cr, what can you expect to be facing? I tried one of the 4000 Cr contracts, and the target had a whole bunch of hired goons. Can I expect to face more of them and for them to be better equipped?

Both the target and his escorts will fly better ships, have better weapons and are better pilots.
Even in an uebership like the caduceus omega you will face a very tough fight with such a contract.

Alternatively you can use a normal ship and some
friends.

I play RH with my Cobra MKIII, no associates with me, no Uber ship.No Naval EU yet, no cloaking device.
I found the 4000 Cr. jobs ok, the 8000 Cr. job impossible to complete.
No idea if the 8000 Cr. jobs are designed to be possible only with escorts and Uber ships because the RH OXP does not offer such things. The good thing with this OXP is that it offers all, soyou can choose the difficulty you like.

They are doable without uber ship or escorts, but they are really hard. You need cunning, strategy and skill to complete them. The whole point of harder contracts is to give somewhat extreme challenge.
Make a quick search around the forum if you need tips on strategies.
