I have an logitech extreme 3D ( 8 year sold now, although not used much during 3 of those 8 years) and have it setup like this :

button
1 Laser

3 precision
4 ECM
5 weapons online toggle
6 toggle ID
9 Injectors
10 target incoming missile
11 Torus - J drive

as the stick has a twist function, roll , pitch and yaw are on the 3 axis.
It also has a genuine throttle i use for speed.

it's main problem is it sometimes drifts from center position
We have about 80 of these joysticks in our lab, you want to see what a year of being used by the military does to them from a "drift" point of view (we have drifting in the same sense as it's used in The Fast and the Furious). However, they're cheap and more than half of them survive a full year, so reasonably robust.

Hi, I've been using my Attack 3 for about 4 or 5 years and find it a great Joystick, have used it mostly to play FS2002 and found it has worked well with little problem.
The only problem I do have is the drift as others have said, when I play fs2002 there is an option to change the 'NULL' Zone which I find helps greatly and eliminates the drift. It would be great if we could have a similar option in Oolite to change the Null zone on the Joystick setup.

This is how I have my buttons set-up, except for the obvious throttle for speed:-

Button:
1. Laser fire
2. Fire secondary weapon
3. E.C.M.
4. Arm secondary
5. Disarm secondary
6. Forward view
7. Port view
8. Cycle secondary weapon
9. Target incoming missile (may change this one)
10. Starboard view
11. Aft view

Hi Skodyn... welcome. I also use the Attack 3... probably the best budget (under £20) 'stick around, I reckon.
  • 1 Laser
    2 Precision roll/pitch toggle
    3 Fire secondary
    4 Take snapshot
    5 Arm secondary
    6 Target nearest missile
    7 Cycle secondary
    8 Activate equipment
    9 Prime equipment
Two buttons unused (on the wrong side of the 'stick's base).

Also use one of these.

I'm still playing around with the setup a little, and find that some of my mapped keys are not used as much as I expected, I tend to use keyboard with my left hand for some things. Anyway, current setup is:

1. Laser fire
2. Activate equipment
3. Fire secondary
4. ECM
5. Precision Toggle
6. Injectors
7. Torus drive
8. Arm Secondary
9. Take Snapshot
10. Toggle equipment
11. Cycle secondary

Logitech Attack Three.
I actually don't use all of the 'stick's functions, but have a customised re-mapped keyboard for my left hand which controls most functions.
The joystick:-
1) laser
2) ECM
3) fire missile
4) precision toggle
5) arm missile
and the wheel thingy is used for yaw.
