The decal code is all out of Ahrumans shader example, and is much, much more advanced than anything i could try to understand - despite him having written a full explanation of it's workings, which is why i always pull an odd combination of facial expressions whenever i have to try and copy bits of it into a new shader, my face sort of does all these  :o  :?: :!: :?: only all at the same time

Ahruman's guide to decals is here https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t= ... c&start=62
Don't get me wrong. I now start understand how to position decals and change colour on the ship. Basic stuff like that. (As pr your instructions earlier). I do not intend to bite over all the other stuff - how shaders actually work. My employer would not like that. (I tend to get quite absorbed in stuff I take an interest in)

@ Gimi: You're very welcome to submit your personalities-entry, as per the instructions in its thread. Together with your shipdata (which will hopefully contain your decals' positions) I then only need the actual PNG of your decals. And then let me worry about everything else from there. :D

Thank you, been thinking about this for a while, but Staff College has sort of had priority. Will put the information together and submit this weekend.

Again thank you.

Oh yes!! Thanks Griff, downloading now.
Expect a screenshot or two tomorrow.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

hmm, just been having a bit of a flit around with it in game, i wonder if i can do something about the shinyness of the decals, subtract them from the specular map or something, at the moment they get way too bright in sunlight, especially that one on the underneath.

edit: i've updated & re-uploaded the oxp to add in a more matte paint finish for the decals, in other news, good grief, i really need to so something to tone down the specular intensity in these oxps

how's your frame rate El Viejo? any slowdowns? i did a bit of testing, but only just pottering around outside the station and didn't notice any slowdown or juddering, but i'm worried 4 decals might add too much extra work for the graphics card to do per frame.

Hi Griff

No drop in fps at all on my machine... I get the usual rock steady 64.
No errors in the log... I can't seem to find the fourth decal, though. It's in my decal png, but doesn't show on the Cobra.

I think, it is the tiny one under the left engine-exhaust.
There is a picture in this thread some way up on this page.

°instantly thinks about damagedecals being applied based on
ship-damage, burnmarks from lasers, small bumps from rockets, etc.°

I've found the fourth decal... had got something wrong in my png. All is well.
It's like a bumper sticker, that fourth one... cool!
