Finally updated :| ...

Please see the first post for a list of the improvements, largely thanks to spara :D who'll now be looking after the base unit of the oxp whilst I take care of the texture packs.

You'll also find the link to the new (and much improved) version: 0.6

If you want to give it a try then you will also need to update your texture packs as the old ones are not compatible with the latest version of this oxp.

Thanks for your interest and patience folks.
Now marvel at what a difference a spara can make :D

Hello Redspear and Spara,

Congratulations on the excellent version 0.6 of Additional Planets, I have been using it in my game most all afternoon and find it to add a great deal to the game both in visuals and augmenting the in system trader's game.

Thank you and Well done...Looking forward to seeing future innovative and imaginative texture oxp releases as and when they become available. :)

I'll do my best :P... I may even have to learn how to do this properly once I run out of Demux ones to revamp

Additional planets, System Redux texture pack and System Demux gas giant texture pack are now available in the expansion pack manager for 1.79.

Big changes were in order to make things work as I wanted them to work with 1.79, so please report any weirdness.

Sorry, with what package to establish it?
I see the main planet without textures!

You need Additional Planets SR as a base oxp and one or more texture packs.

This oxp does not touch the main planet, but adds extra planets, moons and gas giants, depending on the texture packs installed. Without texture packs it does not do anything.

If it is analog of System Redux, what OXP to put for the main planet?

For texturing main planets, I strongly recommend [wiki]PovrayPlanets OXP[/wiki].

This OXP incredibly big. The author likely decided to laugh.

Big objects like planets need high-quality textures to look good. High-quality textures are large, in this case, 512x3072.. 2.5MB per texture isn't too bad, but when you have 256 unique textures for each of 8 charts, well, it adds up.

(And it took submersible a long time and a lot of work to make them all.. I very much doubt he was laughing.. although I'm sure he was very happy when he finally finished. )

MALWARE WARNING...
Hello spacefarers :)

I'm back :D /  / :| (delete according to taste)

... but only for a brief visit ( :D /  / :| )

And a damn fine job he did too :D

Meanwhile, Norby (or anyone else), if you're still looking for planet textures then check this out...

Image

If you like the look of it then you should investigate the link below.
It was generated (along with a lat-long map that could be made into a texture) by a completely free program in just a few seconds.

The program is called planet creator. I did a quick search of the boards here and it didn't seem to show up. Apologies if it has been mentioned before.
It can produce habitable worlds, gas giants, moons, etc, etc...

I haven't even tried the latest version yet and that looks even better.

Anyway, here it is...
Link removed due to suspicion of MALWARE

I can't be certain it was one of these programs but it would be irresponsible of me not to let people know.
If you've already downloaded then I strongly suggest that you DO NOT open or install them.

I scanned them prior to installing and nothing showed up. The next system scan I ran begged to differ...
My chief suspect is the PlanetCreatorWorx file which is much bigger than the folder which is created from its installation.

I'll be sending a PM to Norby right after this message.

Sorry all, and I hope I'm not too late.

Glad you like em Zireael.

I've got too many half done (or barely started) projects on these boards. Must get back to this one some time :-)

BTW Malware thing was it seems, a false alarm. Apologies...
