Very nice! The 64x64 icon actually still works without the simplifications, below it looks better with them.

It's been another month now--can we vote already?

We can vote as soon as Ahruman declares the competition closed and the voting open. You then have a full two hours to make your phone call.
But seriously. I don't know, except that Ahruman is currently absent, so he won't declare the competition closed right now.

I'm pretty sure he (Ahruman) said something like (paraphrasing) new icon will be selected to coincide with the MNSR.
I suspect the big A is having a little break from us - he's nice and active on Twitter.
Better this than burn out and abandonment...

If Ahruman is the Big A, what is Aegidian?
(The Big Oo I'd wager?)
I wish I could draw/paint/hold a pencil, I'd steal in at the last minute and create an awesome new icon and the snatch the winning place from under the noses of all those sitting around twiddling their navigational space compasses. Lucky for them, I can't.

The
Master and Commander.
Or, alternatively, Giles the Creator (see

It was sort of a rhetorical question, but ask and ye shall receive...
Thanks!

Just sketches. A bit offtopic (rather logos than icons). Not completed cause I'm not a logo guru. But maybe someone will find some ideas here.

About the icon - I think we need to focus on the well done vector starbird image (not photos). It is recognizable even in very small size. The original Oolite icon is nice, but as for me it needs more details or other kind of stylization
One more

Ooh, very sparkly! Really like the colour gradient and the scan line effect on the star one - it's a good icon to have for special occasions, with the more modest one being used for the smaller sizes.

I rather like the understated appeal of the present design, rather belies the quality under the hood. If anything at all I would go for simplicity and perhaps look at some classic 80's retro - no shoulder pads & epaulettes though please
The stars version of the original works well, not sure about some of the others though - a couple of them look like a brand of latex contraceptive
There are also some pretty cool efforts too with really nice art work. Given that the title oOlite, now seems to have given birth to the term ooniverse, and this differs fundamentally from the icon concept for Elite, which as we all know was an aspirational gaming status, then the icon/logo should perhaps now reflect the environment, rather than the individual aim of the player?
Just a thought!
