Ah yes, I forgot to mention it, but fuel stations don't use 'F' in 1.73 & above, but a fuel pump icon instead. You're not by any means restricted to ascii (or a subset of UTF) anymore, anyway.
I've seen it on the Feudals.oxp. The "Royal Hunting Lodge" (which I never managed to land on, I always crash, manually and auto-pilot, btw.) has a nice icon instead of a letter. Very cool!

Very nice! This is what I meant with "Style Guide". I should maybe have better said: Registry. With such a high number of OXPs and so much creativity there certain must be some conventions to care for, otherwise we will end in some form of spaghetti code (seeing oolite+oxps as a whole).

Not wanting to scare anyone, but oolite reminds me more and more on a Linux distro. Oolite being the kernel... ;)

One of the things that really made Frontiers duller than dishwater, was the annoying physics engine. Sure, it was realistic, but reality is boring!
Ok. Point accepted and respected. :-)

I find, however, reality, especially in Science Fiction, to add a suck-in effect. By feeling, that it could be so close to real life I experience a much denser athmosphere. I never played FF but I played FF-FE and loved the realism. It's just like being really in the game. Also the dog-fights were not that bad, since the other space ship had a similare direction, velocity. It was possible to follow most ships right behind and shoot them, or simply turn the ships body back and shoot any follower.

Virtual Reality rocks, for me :D

But that is, like so many things, a matter of taste. This is why I mentioned it as an option.

I run oolite on a 1.83GHz Core Duo MacBook (2006) with Intel GMA950 and standard shaders on. It's playable, but as soon I have some dog-fights FPS may go down.
Yeh, you did mention it - I just forgot I'd read it!
No problem, DaddyHoggy, it was a long post (and an extensive answer you gave).

It's a good example why Oolite in its comparatively simplicity is much more fun to me...
Downloaded it and had a quick look at it. Hmmm...I think the gfx is boring and the music is horrible! But I did not play it for real, just a quick look, since the only computer I have now working is my MacBook (1.83GHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD and GMA950) which is nice for anything besides gaming and graphic intense work (3D/OpenGL). I hate Intel for bringing such lousy graphics solution to the market. I mean, the machine is from 2006, come on...! :(

Tech levels usually only go up to 15, so it must be an oxp.

This board can make you feel very alone in that opinion, but you're not. Only almost alone. :)

This is something that is easily solved. Don't buy a computer with Intel graphics. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I'm lumped with the 915GM chip. Feel my pain.

Perhaps my response did come across a little harshly, it wasn't meant to be a flame in any way, it was merely my opinion too. And if everyone had the same opinions, the world would be even duller than my experience of Frontiers :D
I am glad you liked it, I didn't, but good on you for being different.
Intel's graphics chips have always been - adequate for unstressful workplace stuff. For everything else, there's ATi and Nvidia stuff.

I am surprised. But anyway....seems the other one hides well ;-)

Well, the machine was not intended to be a power-horse for gaming. I have a desktop station with ATI gfx. But that is broken ATM and I am too lazy/don't want to spend money atm, so I use my 2nd hand MacBook for all. It was intended to be a mobility/getting work done (job) platform only, but then I was bored one day and starting installing software,.

So, this is why I use the MacBook so extensive now.

Absolutely not! No offense taken.

Everybody is fully entitled to her/his own joys. It's about recreation (gaming) after all, ain't it? If I sounded hurt, it wasn't you. It may have been a little dissapointment, that was sounding through my words. I was not prepared to find such a resistance. I was expecting the opposite here. If I have a look at the care many people put into creating an alternate reality over here (all the background story for OXP, etc.) I thought this would be the logical step. If one wants to escape reality, making it really realistic over there does help, IMO ;-) It's like with poetry. It may be a bit dificult to deal with, some things are easier to read and do not show the weight of life, we all are in, but the overall enjoyment is so much higher in the end. Why? Because it is about live. And grasping it. It is about the virtues. The island, where one can be himself. Where one can be for real. Without reality, one isn't. Virtues. Virtousity. Virtual Reality. Well, I don't know myself. Need to think a little bit more about it.
It's difficult to explain. It's science-fiction against a dreamworld.

Yes, that is what I bought my MacBook for. Would have anyone told me I am going to play games on it I would not have taken him for real.

Right. I am thinking about buying a new rig. I guess I will go for a Radeon HD 5850 and i5 quad (or maybe even i7, but that makes it way more expensive, than I want to,since I need a water-cooler. Summer here gets up to 43 degrees max. with 37-40 possible for the norm. Celsius, I mean )

Anyway, thanks for nice talk. :D

No worries Amix, I was just making sure your feelings weren't hurt by the discussion.
If you're looking at getting watercooling, there are worse places to get help than www.overclock.net I'm also a user around there, and it's a great place full of all kinds of stuff, like some of the planet's coolest modded machines :)

Well, there's me and the guy who hosts the wiki, and probably a few more.

Have you seen FFED3D? A reworked version of Frontier first encounters.
I keep a windows partition only for that game. :)

(I only hope someone will replace the ugly ships and stations that were introduced in FFE with better looking ones soon.)

Black monks are never in anarchy systems and Bars are never in systems that are not anarchies. I think.
Hmm... I am in Ascension (Galaxy 1, most outer planet in roght bottom corner, may have been installed or modified by an OXP. It is an Anarchy with tech-level 16) and I have both monks and a bar. And it seems, that the order, in which they appear in the radar changes. But I am not sure on that, yet. Need to investigate.
I'm not sure right now which OXP is responsible, but it is definitely an OXP. In plain Oolite there are no Anarchies with a TL above 9. And there is no planet called Ascension.

Wasn't that an OSE creation?

Ascension was part of Famous Planets, but I'm not sure if it was a crossover between FP and OSE or if it was just part of FP by itself.
