The first Doctor, Doctor with a capital 'D' - that must be Doctor Who, right?

If I recall this right (no, this time I won't Google) the Doctor was portrayed by five different actors, so I guess: 5.
(Ah - we all have our "weaknesses" I suppose. I never got into Doctor Who)

CLUE: The number of incarnations a Doctor is allowed may be unlucky for some.

I know I'm being a hypocrite by answering this...

14 incarnations, 13 regenerations. And no, I didn't look it up!

Darn, now I have to ask a question, right?

Err... Name the series this quote is from: "What they need out there is a good copper."

I can tell you didn't look it up - the answer is 13 incarnations, so 12 regenerations. Interestingly, the "first" Doctor also said he "wasn't the first incarnation."

He couldn't be the first incarnation - otherwise he'd have got to 850 yrs old with no hiccups and then in the last 50 or so he'd "died" another 9 times!

<looks it up>
Darn. I based my answer on hearing that a time lord had 14 lives... Oh well, my apologies!

that's odd, i thought Dr. Who was allowed 9 regenerations too, i wonder were both DH and I got that from? must have confused him with cats or something.
as an aside and not part of the quiz, does anyone know why in the new Star Trek film Kirk is rather pointedly chomping on an apple all the way through the test simulator scene? Is it an in-joke to something in the original series, it seems a bit random to be an 'acting decision'

It an homage to the retelling of the event he did in the Genesis Cave in ST2:WoK. He tells it while parring and eating an apple. :P A little nod to future history.

Which of course, given the new time line - almost certainly wouldn't happen!

As a point of reference the fourth doctor states that he's 750 years old in Pyramids of Mars...

And David Tennant's Doctor states he's over 900 years old - so 150yrs (whose years?) passed between Tom Baker's Doctor and David Tennant's.

So - an open related question - which incarnation of the Doctor was your first Regeneration?

For me - it was John Pertwee to Tom Baker and therefore Tom Baker was 'my' Doctor.

I vaguely remember watching Tom Baker when I was just discovering DW, but I didn't really start watching it until Peter Davison - so I'm with David Tennant. PD is MY Doctor...

Why is it that a science fiction trivia thread ends up in everybody bragging about Dr Who? :?:

(just kidding; the answer is of course BECAUSE WE CAN (DERAIL ANY THREAD)) :wink: 8)

It's intended to be a fun, light hearted thread. If that requires derailment, so be it.

Speaking of light - heartedness;

(The reason I haven't been contributing is that I KNOW NOTHING about Doctor Who. What? Thumbscrews!? Waterboarding!? Chinese Water Torture!? The Rack... The Spanish Inquisition!? I KNOW NOTHING I TELL YOU! NOTHING!)
