New Player

Post by scaseman »

Found this game by complete accident. Brings back memories of massive eighteen hour sessions on the C64 version of Elite in the early 80's. Made it all the way to Elite and got the gold badge from I think it was firebird software. Unfortunately I no longer have the badge in my possession. Once I got to Elite status I stopped playing as I felt that was the end of the game to me. Oolite looks to me to have a lot more to offer especially with all of the OXP's available. I tried playing the PC versions of Elite that are available over the years but they did not seem to offer anything new.

That badge would be pretty rare! Wonder what it is worth today?

I sold the badge on Ebay five years ago to my eternal regret. I remember emailing Ian Bell who was interested in how much it would sell for. All I can remember was that it sold for less than £10.00

I'd have given you twenty - I got to Elite but never got the badge (also on the C64 - also an 18hr session at a time man (boy!)

I wasn't aware you could have been rewarded a badge. So when researching the internet i found this page which I think might be of interest for some of you:

http://www.ianlawrencemodels.com/elitebadge.html

This guy even built a 1/48 scale model of a Cobra Mk III.

Well, good night then and have a good start into 2010!
Get the Oolite Keymapper for Mac here!

That guy also has a YouTube video of that Cobra III model (it's a little low-rez and blurry). Just search YouTube for "oolite" - there aren't that many pages (maybe 3 or 4) of videos.

I think mine was the one on the right in the picture containing three badges. I must admit I was hoping to get more than what it sold for. It came with a headed piece of paper congratulating me on my achievement. When you reached Elite a numeric code was generated which you sent in. I wonder how many badges were awarded?

Not sure, but the casting looks a little rough and ready. So replicating a mould probably wouldn't be that tricky. Sure you'd need a bit of kit. But resin casting, with a powdered metal finish shouldn't be that hard.

Well,

http://www.ianlawrencemodels.com/elitebadge.html

Seems fairly detailed, more so than the official ones, and he should still have the mould lying around. Maybe if we approach him with a bulk order?

I'm happy to get 5 - 10 of those myself (well, it depends on the actual price! :)). How many do we want?
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

So as we don't inundate this guy with 100 seperate requests - Does someone want to step up to make the initial contact? Be the liaison, as it were?
