OK, I just had another spontaneous pickup.

While mining some asteroid splinters I spontaneously picked up 1t of narcotics.

Does this suggest some problem with Ore processor and the Pods OXPs?

There's nothing in Pods that specifically awards Narcotics. There are one or two which award random cargo, but most of those are the larger pods which award multiple tons/kg/grammes.

I would wonder if this is actually something in trunk rather than an OXP? If something is being spawned which for some reason is picking up the role of "cargopod" (or whatever the generic role is) by accident?

I don't think that it's trunk itself. I'm always using a trunk build instead of the release and I didn't have such a strange thing happen to me. Maybe I just had luck, but I don't think so.

By trunk here I was meaning the core game, not specifically (currently) 1.74 vs 1.73.4 release. That there may be something of a glitch in the main game code itself, as I cannot see how Pods could do what is being reported, and that's apparently the only cargo OXP running.

Hmmm, if it is a core game issue, it might be fairly difficult to track down: there have been quite a few scripting changes between 1.73.4 and the svn trunk, so it might not be reproducible in ver 2198 (the current trunk build).

At the moment I'm having 'fun' with the new planets code while Ahruman is on a well deserved break from Oolite, but in a week time or so I'll see if I can reproduce it... that is, if I remember. :|
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

Just an update:

While simply flying to the planet I picked up 1t of Alien Items and later on 1t of Luxuries.

Seems that this is quite frequent then. Please remove all OXPs and play for a while with just the vanilla set up. This way we will be able to tell if the bug is indeed OXP or inernal code generated.

When playing without any OXPs I didn't get a random pickup (yet). As this might take some more time to try out I'll invest some more time tonight and post any new observation.

@Chrisfs: Did you experience any more pickups?

Whilst playing last night I picked up a Galactic Navy Officer. Didn't see an escape pod though or see any navy ships/combat.

As this can only happen when the Galactic Navy OXP is installed, thought maybe this could be an important clue?

Alternatively been thinking that this bug has only been happening since I installed the Pods / UPS Pods OXPs.... What do you think?

Further to Greyman's list of installed OXPs, of the ones he has installed, I have only the following:

Energy Equipment 1.04.oxp
Galactic_Navy 5.2.2.oxp
Ore_processor 1.55.oxp <- I only have 1.53 of this currently!!
PlanetFall 1.23.oxp
Pods 1.10.oxp
Pods-UPS 1.10.oxp
Python Class Cruiser 2.6.oxp
UPS-courier v1.6.1.oxp <- I only have 1.5.6
behemoth 2.5.4.oxp <- I only have 2.5.1
impcourier2.oxp
x-ships.oxp

Looks like I need to update some OXPs, but at least I have cut the list down!

EDIT: Removed Transports from the list as I don't have it currently! Will find out what it does though... :)

So it's me again :)

Having removed all OXPs and time after time adding them again while playing for some time I didn't get the spontaneous pickups anymore as long as I don't install the Pods-OXP.

Now I have all the listed OPXs installed (plus ADCKs new shadery textures) and everything is fine again. So does this hint to some problem with the Pods 1.10.OXP (an OXP which I really enjoy very much)?

Hmm continue playing without pods for a while, just to be sure, i've noticed that the magically-spawning pods are fairly random, can go hours without getting it.

Well I for one won't be uninstalling it, as the bug doesn't spoil much for me! I like the features very much, even when I scoop an exploding pod (happened last night for the first time)!
