mac + Oolite 1.73.4: changing to full screen -> restart

Post by Corny »

Hi,
I have that quite rarely. First I thought it was because of CoverSutra, but it also happens without it:
When I change to full screen, sometimes - I can't say when - the whole mac restarts immediately.
Nothing mentioned about Oolite or a kernel panic in the logs.

 Wow, that's quite a drastic crash...

What kind of mac? Not a Hackintoch perchance?

No, no. It's a Dualcore MacBook with 10.6 installed.
It happened a bit often now, that's why I didn't report it earlier when I had it the first time. The crashes seem to happen more often when I have an active Skype conversation (audio-only at the moment). If I run it in a window, it's stable, though.
I can't assure that Skype wasn't running in all my previous crashes (happened ca. 4 times total, 2 in the last two hours during skype conversations), but I know that my other Oolite-related crashes were not during an active Skype conversation.
So if I have a crash with Skype not running, I'll let you know. For the moment, I won't play Oolite while skyping.

Just confirmed to crash without Skype running, although seemingly much less.

Hmmm, the 1.73 branch was not really tested for 10.6 (there's a lot of hidden changes between the 32 bits 10.5 & the 64 bits 10.6), so in many ways it's really good that it actually works at all on snow leopard: 1.73.4 itself was released about 3 weeks after snow leopard's initial release, again offering little chance to test all possible compatibility issues.

I believe Ahruman did make quite a few changes to trunk (aka what's going to become 1.74, eventually) some of them specifically to make Oolite more compatible with 10.6. He's going to be around in a few day's time, if I'm not too mistaken, and I'm sure he'll be able to tell us more.

Unfortunately, afaik, he's the only one of us developers who's got 10.6.
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

Okay, I'll try to compile a trunk build then.
Edit: gna gna GCC 4.2 (4.0, too) failed with exit code 1. I'll better wait for 1.74 for a complete hazard-free Oolite then.
