Really? Could it be that you misinterpreted the deprecation warnings as errors?

I'm using trunk here and really, it works nicely...and I've got tons of oxps installed...

Very likely! :)

The amount of deprecation warnings in trunk can be slightly overwhelming! Hopefully after 1.74 we'll have a lot less changes to javascript bits & bobs! ;)

It looks like you're somehow missing some files there...

For me, using trunk with an immense amount of oxps I do virtually only get such warnings:

[script.javaScript.warning.ooliteDefinedError]: ----- JavaScript warning ("vector" 1.3): Mission.choice is deprecated and will be removed in a future version of Oolite.
Which means that it's still working that way but trying to notify the user that this support will be dropped some time soon.

Since your log does show standard oolite files missing, it's looking a bit like you compiled the trunk version and then copied it's executable over the normal oolite file without building a complete installer and using that one. Whenever resources change, you'll need an installer or run from the directory you build the trunk version in.

Hi Screet,

Yep, I built the latest trunk and then I copied everything under the oolite.app directory to my newly created c:\oolite directory. I then added the addon directory with all my oxp's. Since the oolite.app directory contains a resource directory with all the resources in it I thought that it would be okay. Maybe I haven't understood the process correctly. Do I actually have to build a installer?

The actual files contained inside the Resources directory do change between Oolite versions, so to run Oolite trunk correctly, you need to copy the Resources directory across too. The .dll files aren't guaranteed to stay the same either, but we didn't need to change them for trunk - yet! :)

Okay, I have down loaded the latest nightly trunk build and applied all the oxp's. This is much improved with only 3 error locations left. trying to search oolite bulletins for answers.... (Continued thanks to all of you)

Doing it that way (without the installer) may work with the executable only. With you also copying all the other files manually, I think it should work, but your log somehow says that it's got a problem there.

This is how I usually do it: when I use svn and see a lot of resources / AI files and such being updated, I build an installer. If it's only new source files, I typically only copy the new app over to the installation folder.

I've had trouble about 2 months ago when I was updating that way without an installer - I had all sorts of strange bugs which instantly went away when I used an installer instead. Building an installer is pretty easy (at least on windows) anyway as it's simply calling make with a little bit different parameter.

It won't make your bugs with missing files from oxps go away, but if there's been other changes which are not fully propagated, maybe you would really be able to use trunk without those troubles at all. For me, it really works very well - and my oxp directory contains 40 items including the oxp-pack OSE.

Hmmm. I still fail to understand why copying all the files manually did leave errors for your installation...probably you accidentally once answered wrong when windows asked about replacing the files/folders?

johnt: Screet is right. Doing it the way you describe should work. It looks like something went wrong or mishandled during the copy process.

When you checkout a clean svn tree, you can build Oolite and run it by simply typing make debug=no (or debug=yes, depending on your build preference). The build process includes copying an image of a fully functional installation to a newly created oolite.app folder, living inside your svn checkout. Any subsequent updates to the code produce fully updated and working installation images and you can always run the latest version straight from within your svn tree, by navigating to the oolite.app folder and running the executable. There should be no need to copy any files to any location, really.

These appear to be intentional and are basically harmless. The error message can be suppressed by adding is_tempate = yes; to the relevant shipdata.plist entries. (I don’t know offhand what OXP this is from, but clearly it involves stations.)

Well, like it says, “What” shouldn’t be in junkAI.plist. I don’t know where that comes from, and its very badly-chosen name gives no clue.

Someone appears to have confused ship roles with shipdata keys. <system script_actions> means it’s a script from a system dictionary in planetinfo.plist.

New Trunk Build

Started from scratch and updated to latest trunk. built and ran trunk with no errors.

Started introducing oxp's one at a time. It seems that some oxp's require models such as cobra3_redux1.dat, python_redux1.dat, python_redux2.dat
etc. After investigation found that these models where in the 1.73.4 branch but not in the trunk. Copied these models across and no more missing model errors.
Next two errors...

[ai.unpermittedMethod]: Handler "INCOMING_MISSILE" for state "AVOID_HAZARD_POINT2" in AI "junkAI.plist" uses "What", which is not a permitted AI method. In a future version of Oolite, this method will be removed from the handler. If you believe the handler should be a permitted method, please report it to [email protected].

where found to have been caused by the Lave1.70 oxp.

And the final error...

was indeed fixed by adding the is_template = yes; to the shipdata.plist in the config directory of the oxp. This error originated in the PAGroove_Stations_v1.2.1.oxp and thats it. My trunk version is now error free.
Thanks to all, its been a good learning experience for me.

Oh yes. I was going to reintroduce those. (General note: it’s a bad idea to rely on specific models in Oolite, use like_ship instead.)

Oolite Extended v0.8 Install-1.74.0.2887.exe - windows only!

Maybe they were accidentally deleted but svn didn't delete the files thus once they were available and did stay on my disc and noone did notice that deleting them would lead to problems for people who have a completely new svn version?
