Post by Captain Berf »

Complete ste of alternate textures for the Deep Space Dredgers oxp.

Image

***Updated to v 1.1***
V1.1 (2009-12-12)

CHANGELOG
o Fixed dredgerTraderEngines.png (some orange lettering was visible)
o Added dredgerCourier2.png which I forgot in v1.0
o Added but not implemented are a custom texture for the ball turret used on the Fury
o Added but not implemented emission maps for the engines and for the Dredger Trader.
o Included a player version of the Dredger Trader sans logos.
--

All zipped up here:

Windows Live Download Page

Or look 5 posts down where DaddyHoggy has graciously uploaded v1.0 to box.net. :)

Notes:
o Tried to keep the spirit of the originals.
o A few of the underlying models have some geometry problems.
o The ball turret on the fury is called from central casting and doesn't match stylistically (also the internal hangar when docking).
o It was easier to start a new topic than redact big parts of the old.
o The files in this archive supercede any others I released (unless, of course, you like them better).

Issue with ballturret:

When renegades.oxp is installed the front texture for anyone who calls a generic ballturret is changed from oolite.app/Resources/oolite-ball-turret.png to AddOns/renegades.oxp/Textures/turret_skin.png

Good one! Looks like you've been busy! :)

About the geometry problems, you might want to release an optional zip file with the corrected .dats! That is, if it's not too much trouble.

Likewise for the turrets, you should be able to override the texture, using like_ship & 'material', if I remember correctly.
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

Thanks.

I'm not qualified to fix the models. I have no 3d skills. Just 2d.

Also, if anyone knows, in general, will fixing models obsolete the UV mapping? And since dat2objTex won't work on >1 texture, thus losing the UV mapping data, would they have to be totally remapped and redone?

re: changing the scripting
I didn't want to mess with someone else's work and I didn't want to branch. (And I certainly don't want to put Eric on the spot.) I thought this was the best solution. (Plus everything I know about Oolite scripting I've learned in the last 4 weeks.) :)

If anything else needs 2d work just pm me or mention it here.

I added the link to your textures at the above wiki page. On testing I noticed the link didn't work. On testing your original link in your message I noticed it doesn't work either. (It did yesterday but now I get only an empty file)

Thanks.

Fixed the link. It now goes to the download page. MS Live must change the direct link address daily.

Also anyone feel free to upload it somewhere more convenient. I just didn't want to sign up for more accounts.

As it's under 10MB I've put it on my Box.net account for you.

I just encountered a black dredger. 8) It seems the only texture that is missing is : dredgerCourier2.png. It is identical to dredgerCourier.png but than everything that was yellow is now red. With this red colour of this ship variant, the original dredgerCourier2.png is a bit different compared to all other ships.

For now, just duplicate the new dredgerCourier.png file and call it dredgerCourier2.png. That way you can replace the complete texture folder and all the dredger ships use the more detailed textures.

Thanks, I appreciate that. :)

Does the link in the code box not work for you?

The filename and URL are the same except for the added version number -- which I should have used in the first place.

If you'd prefer I can email it or IM it. It's at 9.1 MB now.

[I wish MS Live would rethink their URLs :/ ]

EDIT:

I have a cunning plan. I'll re-up the file without underscores in the name. Hopefully that will work. Changed in top post.
