Anyway the inspiration for the alien gates wasn't actually B5, although the resemblance is certainly there.
For inspiration, please step forward one Cmdr Frame, from his v0.1 of Solar System. And whilst at it, take a bow for the ownProperties code snippet they also use, inspired by bounty scanner (via a thought from Eric).
Darn and blast that's some good eye candy. I agree with others on the "Keep Oolite as Oolite" approach, but when people come up with models like that I don't really care about the purity...
Keep em coming. Maybe we can put together "total conversions"?
My work PC would do, except it's got standard (aka old) graphics drivers and as of course I'm just a normal luser on it and don't have chainsaw rights, I'm shaderless.
And my home laptops and Linux box are all so old/low-spec/freecycle-based that they don't even with the whole internet full of drivers at my disposal
Did yours come with xp? I've seen an xp netbook running Oolite with shaders (1gig ram, other hardware basically identical to aspire one and 99% of all netbooks) I think the acer aspire one has got its own custom linux installation, one that might not have the latest linux video drivers at that...
Trader about to enter prototype of Galcop civilian jumpgate, nicknamed the RoseGate. Still very much a WIP model, especially the texturing. Might also look at an industrial-style gate too.

Time to design a craft that looks like a bumblebee
funnily enough i've got a series of sketches of insecty inspires ships, from a fat bumbler freighter to a dragonfly fighter. that rose gate is suitably quirky tho. thargoids would probably make a venus fly trap version that snaps shut on a ship and crushes it :-O
